DeSantis confirms it was just a political stunt.

What an uncaring shmuck. Those onesies and twosies might have family in Florida. We sure as hell don’t want these people staying with family in Florida when they can sleep on the beach in New England.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/09/21/desantis-biden-migrant-flight-comparison/

The criticism of the Biden administration flying migrants around the country has been building for some time. It was spurred on by a Republican candidate for New York governor releasing body-camera footage of a plane carrying more than 100 unaccompanied migrant children landing in Westchester County, N.Y., in August of last year. And it’s an attractive subject for a conservative media ecosystem which often plays up border issues close to an election.

But the criticisms often skirt over the fact that these flights carry children — and that’s important. In fact, the government by law cannot hold unaccompanied minors in border facilities for more than 72 hours, and they must be cared for while they are transported to relatives, sponsors or shelters.

“Our legal responsibility is to care for unaccompanied children while they are on our watch, and that includes connecting them to vetted sponsors,” Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Jorge Silva told The Washington Post’s Fact Checker back in February.

That law isn’t new, meaning such flights occurred under the Trump administration, too — without the backlash from Trump’s partisans. Reports from 2018 cited flights of migrant children to New York and other places. At one point in 2019, the Trump administration sought a private contractor who could transport 225,000 migrants across the country to temporary shelters, because of overcrowding at the border. A top Immigration and Customs Enforcement official clarified to Fox News at the time that such transports had already been taking place.

The simple answer here is that they did harm children and DeSantis put these people in a much better spot than they came from.

See we can both play that game.

I said i dont like it... Multiple times. My point is that it at least put them in a better situation than they came from.

Meanwhile the people angered by this "authoritarianism" supported authoritarian measures that harmed children.

I'm not defending DeSantis actions, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of those condemning this while supporting something worse.

If remote schooling is devastating I shudder to think of what would happen to these fragile flowers if they had to endure the crime and poverty that so many of the other kids around the world go through on a daily basis. My kids lost out on college graduation, sr year in high school, sr year in college. They suffered an inconvenience and learned life isn't fair. Devastated...smdh

I really appreciate the words Tilly. I am glad for your discourse as well. We’re all hypocrites to some degree I think, but I’m trying to at least keep hypocrisy from being my most salient feature. :)

No, we can't, because I can actually honestly say what I'm saying. If you believe the latter point, you're off your rocker.

Pubs are the party of law and order and back the blue?

"On Monday, September 19 in Bexar County, Texas — where the flight of migrants originated before going to Florida and later, Martha’s Vineyard — Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that he would be opening a criminal investigation of DeSantis. And since then, according to Vice’s Paul Blest, Salazar’s office has been inundated with “threats.”

According to Miles Taylor, a former insider in the Trump administration, Trump wanted to move "murderers", "rapists" and "criminals" into Democratic cities, no doubt so he could then blame Democrats for the violence that ensues.

Let's see who here tries to defend this.

Pretty insensitive response to think that every kid handles it like yours. Mine were not "devastated" either, but there was harm done 8n the temporary sense. We saw it in our oldest. We know of others who have not been as fortunate sadly. I wont bother wasting specifics on those who may mock it

So much for the liberal tolerance you probably claim to espouse.

If I believe Martha's Vineyard is a better spot than the place they are fleeing or the Texas county where they are dying stuck in locked trailers I am off my rocker?

    Thats a weird take.

No defense. But comparing this to what DeSantis did is silly. Trump seems to have hoped for violence in this report.
