That article is from March when the failed offensive toward Kyiv culminated due primarily to logistical problems. Three days was just an optimistic estimate by the defending army, of course, but the facts are that Russia failed to take enemy airfields as planned, overestimated their ability to maneuver in winter, did not stock adequate supplies to sustain the offensive out of Belorus, failed to take into account the abysmal condition of their rolling stock, and did not check the conditions of the supplies they had on hand before deciding to go to war. So the Ukrainian assessment of the Russian supply condition around Kyiv seems largely correct for the time and place. Once again, an epic fail on your part. The reference was specifically to Russian troops near Kharkiv and probably one of the few times I agree somewhat with you, the source was the Ukrainian military so I'm not sure that it's 100 percent accurate although the fact that the Russians fled the area leaving weapons and other equipment tends to lend at least some credibility to the narrative.
Didn't bother watching the video although I suspect that his assessment of the capability of the Russian military at the time was far different that what the Russians have demonstrated when they actually had to fight a war, which they initiated by the way.

Watched it and it was what I expected. It also reminds me of the predictions prior to the first Gulf War in 1990-91 when capabilities of Saddam Hussein's million man army were greatly overestimated. The near consensus forecast was that although the US and its allies would prevail we would sustain significant casualties in the process. Fortunately we won while sustaining extremely small losses. By the way it's much more prudent to overestimate the capabilities of an adversary than to underestimate them as Putin has done in Ukraine. I might also add that one of the reasons authoritarian states fail in military operations is that the military subordinates of the Dear Leader are afraid to tell him the truth for fear of being relieved or occasionally far worse.

Apparently Bout has served more than half his sentence already. That makes the proposed trade not entirely as insane as I first thought. Granted if the guy somehow got back into the business and his weapons ended up on the battlefield in Ukraine that would be a major issue. I still say it should be a hard no to let the arms dealer out early, but my original assumption was that the guy would die in jail. Most likely his sentence falls short of that.
