Here’s how immigrants are being shamelessly exploited.

Bexar County Sheriff announces investigation into how migrants went from Texas to Martha's Vineyard | CNN

“A total of 48 migrants were "lured" to a hotel where they were housed for two days, according to Salazar. The migrants were flown to Florida and then later transported to Martha's Vineyard under "false pretenses," he said. The sheriff said they were flown to Martha's Vineyard for "a photo-op and stranded." He believes the migrants were "exploited and hoodwinked" into making the trip for political posturing.”

I can’t imagine any human being with a sense of decency would consider these “relocations” defensible.

so you get to decide that a law is no good and should be ignored/done away with? silly me, i thought that was for the courts and legislature to decide, meanwhile the laws still stand whether you like it or not.

"One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws" - Martin Luther King Jr.

If people didn't disobey unjust laws, we would still be part of the British Commonwealth. And minorities would be drinking from separate fountains.

I believe our immigration laws are unjust. Why punish someone for wanting to stay here, especially if they are working and otherwise staying out of trouble? Want to punish them? Make them pay an extra fine. But who benefits if we spend money to detain and deport people who are contributing to society? Now, if they aren't working or committing crimes, different story. But the majority of immigrants are working, and staying out of jail.

The laws should serve the people, not the other way around.

As for who decides what's a good law and what isn't, we all decide on our own. Break a law and yes, there may be consequences, and if you break one, better be prepared to face them. But without brave people to break the unjust laws, where would we be?

so we decide on our own what laws to obey and which to ignore? what if i think there should be no speed limit, what if i think driving drunk is ok, i think they are wrong, but by not following them i put innocent people in harms way. again, a law is a law until changed or repealed.

Overstaying a visa is a civil violation, not a criminal violation.

Break laws you feel unjust at your own risk, and be prepared for the consequences. If you feel drunk driving laws are unjust, go drive drunk. Just be prepared to get caught and end up in jail. And good luck finding those that sympesize with your position.

How do you feel about punishing people stealing classified documents from the govt? Asking since you're all about punishing law breakers.

Not at all. Laws should be codified along with punishments. Break the law, get caught, and be prepared to face the consequences. But if you find a law unjust, you may you also have the gumption to break it, or at least support those that do.

If people always followed the law and not have courage enough to break it when they thought it unjust, the Colonist pay the tea tax, Rosa moves to the back of the bus, and MLK Jr. maybe never gets arrested, and never writes his famous letter from jail.

Most laws are just. But if you feel they are not, maybe you should break it to try and change it. Or again, support those that do.

With any large group, there are bad apples. This includes undocumented immigrants. But with all immigrants, we know they commit less crime than citizens.

There are also over 5 million people with an ITIN number, including DREAMers. Those DREAMers alone, who represent about 10% of the undocumented workforce, pay over $6 billion in federal taxes a year.

We also know it costs about $10,000 just to deport one person, on average. The DREAMers alone would cost $8 billion to deport, while causing the loss in $6 billion in taxes. Please, someone explain this $14 billion loss is good for the country?

Over $114 billion to deport all undocumented immigrants. Which would also cause 8 million new job openings at a time where we have over 11 million job openings, and less than 6 million on unemployment. Anyone care to do the math and explain how this is a good thing?

Our immigration law is unjust. It doesn't work for the immigrants, and doesn't work for us. I feel no ill will to those whose only "crime" is breaking said immigration law. The law needs to be changed.
