Kind of reinforces my narrative that DeSantis is playing to MAGA nation rather than the voters of Florida.

 

I could understand why considering that the Venezuelans that DeSantis flew from Texas to Martha's Vineyard originally fled from a Venezuelan government not unlike the Marxist Cuban government from which the overwhelming majority of South Florida Hispanics, their parents or grandparents fled over the last 60 years. Still do not think that it will make any difference in the end.

Maybe, but I wouldnt be so sure. Jedd Legum seems to think it's accurate and he is usually reliable

 

Either way, I doubt Desantis had anything to do with the brochure itself, but it would be interesting to see the communications between his office and the hucksters behind this fraud.

 

To illustrate why the Venezuelans have fled their home country and what DeSantis really thinks about them, it may not be a bad idea for Charlie Crist's campaign to incorporate this photo into one of its ads. That's the late Hugo Chavez the founder of the current Venezuelan regime with Fidel Castro by the way.

 

I'm sure he didn't individually do any design work or hand them out. But someone came up with the contracts with the Russian affiliated air transport which told them they could not talk to the press. So there was some logistics behind it. I'm guessing the same individuals that worked out the contracts had a role in passing out the pamphlets

 

I talked with several Cubans on a fishing trip in July. They voted for Trump because they thought he would be tougher on the current Cuban government. I forgot to ask them if they thought this was working, since things don't seem to have changed much in the 60 years or so that we've had a tough policy on Cuba. I also asked them if Cuba was to become a free country would they want IMF or other international groups to help fund Cuba's economic recovery. They said no because the money would probably still go to the rich and not to the rest of the country. They thought rich Cubans could invest and Cuba would recover. I didn't say that the rich people probably couldn't contribute enough to make a big difference because I didn't want to get into an argument with them. There was a recent immigrant who spoke no English and told us that agriculture, manufacturing and other such jobs were almost dead when I asked what parts of the economy would support Cuba's economic recovery. It was an interesting discussion for sure.

That's very interesting. I defer to no one in my hatred of the regime. But it's just not clear that the embargo will do anything to end that. I thought the defrosting of relations made sense for that purpose alone. But what will happen after that brutal and evil regime finally falls is very much an unsettled question, as your very informative post shows.

 

island life everywhere is difficult, especially with energy from imported oil/gas and so much food being imported. grow your own and go green and it becomes easier to support an island economy.

 

The fishing was good and the company was great. The Cubans were very cool and we had a great discussion or two, even when I asked them what the definition of socialism was. When I explained to them that nobody was advocating that the government take over businesses, etc they were like, well, yeah! The only person I had a problem with was a guy who said he wouldn't talk to me after I told him I supported Biden's administration.

another corrupt gubmnt making life hard on it's own citizens by wasting or misappropriating the vast resources provided to them. they made a lot of $$ off of liquor taxes and mishandled the distilleries who left for other areas. Captain Morgan left for USVI which gave the USVI a windfall tax benefit at the expense of PR.
