These are the numbers from the front page of the Drudge Report. Don’t know where he gets them from. COVID CASES USA 7-DAY AVG
    61,405 SEP 18 2022
    148,215 SEP 18 2021

    DEATHS 7-DAY AVG
    516 SEP 18 2022
    2,012 SEP 18 2021

Saying it’s over is a bit optimistic. Saying it’s much improved and we all can cautiously be back to business as usual would probably be more accurate.

Ah well, teacher’s unions pretty much dictated Covid policy to the CDC.

    Science!

Let me help you here: Biden is a politician, not a scientist. He doesn’t get to “declare” anything over. Not in any meaningful way, although most public health measures have long sense relaxed, are you saying the Biden admin should put them back in place? He’s simply stating his opinion, and compared to the ludicrous takes the prior admin had around public health I don’t think this is much of a faux pas.

In fact Fauci himself said similar things way back in April, before sort of waking them back with similar stipulations as Biden (his walk back drew a distinction between “full blown pandemic” phase and what we have been dealing with in the last 12-24 months…. kind of a lesser pandemic with the Omicron variant.

    To further help you out:

Full Blown Pandemic = brand new novel virus capable of killing 2+ million Americans within a year and hospitalizing millions more. The alpha version had that, the delta variant wave had that as a threat.

Since essentially the Omicron variant became dominant and we’ve been fully open for business for well over a year, it’s apparent this virus no longer has that killing capability, we have vaccines, and in general “it is what it is” from a public health perspective. Doesn’t mean the virus isn’t a threat or won’t register deaths. It will. Still registering far more than flu. WHO is a global body that maybe isn’t ready to declare it endemic. I’d say the official declaration needs to see it actually flatline for a much longer period of time.

How to bring the so-called pandemic to a screeching halt ...

Stop testing. That’s it. That is all.

Remember when Republicans (some on this board) predicted Biden and the Democrats would declare the pandemic “over” in November 2020 when the election was over and Trump was out of office? How’d that prediction work out lol

It was stupid because when Trump was uttering those words was the beginning, when shit was about to hit the fan. The exact window for when the govt could have saved the most lives, if it acted in time. Instead Trump chose to flat out lie (something he was caught on tape admitting). So with it being a lie I’d say calling it merely “stupid” doesn’t even cover it. Perhaps no politician would have “done what was necessary” in those very early days, but it’s hard to imagine an administration bungling it any worse. Trump expanded on his lies and later went down a path of evil. To actually undermine public health to save his flailing election campaign was one of the most disgusting acts of many atrocities committed by those traitors. Calling to “liberate” right in the midst of the worst of the pandemic. When literally nobody other than a handful of kooks thought that was a good idea.

I suspect Biden is thinking politics here (*I* ended the pandemic, gimme credit for that), or he’s just responding to a question in a somewhat scientifically ignorant way. In either case, his view obviously reflects the mainstream of the United States if you look at public health measures (or lack thereof), even if it’s not an official WHO position.

I for one was shocked. All Biden had to do, to conquer the so-called pandemic, as he pretty much said he’d do, is to instruct the CDC to stop testing. It worked in 2009 with the so-called Swine Flu.

I just called the White House and left the message: “Excuse me, Mr. President, what medical school did you go to ?”

    Objection. Irrelevant.

He said it yesterday and he is incorrect according to science.

This is exactly my point. No reason to defend it. This is exactly what I am saying.

If you weren't bothered by Republicans' (terribly failed) prediction that Biden would declare the pandemic over as soon as he took office after the 2020 election, then you shouldn't be bothered by Biden's official declaration that it's over nearly 2 years after that. Keep mustering up that outrage tho lol

And all Trump had to do was not be an ignorant, pompous dumbass in how he handled COVID and he would've easily gotten re-elected in 2020. Life's a bitch ain't it lol

What I don’t is, imagine there is a pathogen that’s killed over a million in the US. Why would Biden want considerably more deaths on his watch, than on Trump’s watch, when all he had to do is stop testing or at least adjust PCR CT. It’s hard to believe the CDC would outright defy such a request.

You've been around enough to know that I havent really taken a "republican" view 9f the pandemic. You may recall that I was pretty vocal about Trumps pandemic views being my last straw with him.

Can you imagine the outrage if Biden would have stated "no, the pandemic is not over. We're still seeing 60,000 cases and nearly 500 deaths daily." Folks would have complained about fake news! Plandemic! More support for big pharma! etc.

He could have just encouraged Americans to go on with their lives instead of cowering with fear. But alas, few if any heads-of-state anywhere had the courage to stand against the blood on hands threat. And in Trump’s case, it was Birx breathing down his neck.

I don’t expect Biden to return my call. But if he does I expect to get an earful about roaches, kids and leg hair.
