Yeshiva University Halts All Student Clubs to Block L.G.B.T.Q. Group

Yeshiva University abruptly announced on Friday that it had placed all undergraduate club activities on hold, the latest maneuver in the legal battle by the Modern Orthodox Jewish institution to keep from recognizing an L.G.B.T.Q. student group.

The move came two days after the U.S. Supreme Court had ordered the university to recognize the student group. In a 5 to 4 vote, the justices said the university would first have to make its arguments in New York State courts before returning to the Supreme Court.

“If applicants seek and receive neither expedited review nor interim relief from the New York courts, they may return to this court,” the Supreme Court order said.

Citing the upcoming Jewish holidays, the university sent out a terse, unsigned email at midafternoon on Friday that said it would “hold off on all undergraduate activities” while it planned its next steps to “follow the road map provided by the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Yea, Ben Shapiro has been whining about this, says it would be equivalent to him going into a gay bar and starting to quote Leviticus, which is a pretty funny image when you think about it

It's hard to decide whether the woke playbook comes from Karl Marx or the Borg. You simply cannot accept that not everyone wants to live and believe as you demand.

This is about discrimination, not acceptance.

Nobody is asking for their endorsement or transition, merely acceptance. Religions of all faiths talk about acceptance. Few, if any, truly practice it. They want to have the same rights as the other student groups. Not new rights or greater rights, just the same

This is one of those issues that I think is a closer call. On one hand, we should be able to bar discrimination. On the other hand, we have to be mindful that we're not violating anybody's free speech or free exercise rights in doing so. I need to know more about the facts and what the LGBTQ group is asking for.

Adherence to the values of every religion is too much to ask of some folks.

Yeshiva is a private school. They should be free to discriminate however they want to, kinda like, you know, Big Tech does. The left wants and gets it both ways because of a liberal court decision, and when Yeshiva takes the only action left to them to act in accordance with their beliefs, liberals still cry foul.

Yeshiva receives federal funding. Also, I'm probably afraid to ask how you think big tech discriminates. Because if you tell me they kick off conservatives that violate their terms of service, I'm gonna laugh.

My opinion is if they don’t take any federal money including student financial aid they can do any stupid backward thing they want.

So, Notre Dame should be able to discriminate against women?
What's the difference between discriminating against gays and discriminating against women? Discrimination is discrimination.

    LGBTQ: “We said GAY!”

most people: “What are talking about ?”

This is a great listen. Peter Beinart flagged it. It's obviously specific to this controversy but also deals with the way Faith traditions in general deal with the issue and similar issues of societal evolution. Not surprising that arguably the world's most serious faith tradition in terms of wrestling with moral issues has a really thoughtful piece about it.
