Not really. Where did England, where the first Americans came from, get their art? Sure, some would have been from well known artists but for the most part from the local guy. Does the local guy have any idea what Jesus looked like? Probably not as he's never been more than 20 miles from home so he'll just wing it based on what he knows.

You need an education in common sense. People model art after their experience and knowledge. Not everything is about racism, which is why the attempts to link it to everything have made it largely meaningless.

English artists simply utilized the Greco-Roman figures that were utilized well before there were Christians in Britain (the Angles and Saxons hadn't even made it to Britain by this point). There were a variety of images of Christ until about the Renaissance in Western Europe (although the Byzantine Church had mostly switched to the Greco-Roman depiction by the 6th Century and they were well aware of what people from the Middle East looked like). But no, the figure was not modeled on the English. It was more based on depictions of Greek and Roman Gods. And people in the 16th-17th Century in Western Europe knew about the appearance of people in the Middle East.

I'm aware of the historical reason why. But as has been mentioned, most everyone NOW has a tacit understanding Jesus wasn't a white guy. Yet they still have white Jesus everywhere. It's hard to argue that doesn't have racial undertones. In fact, what other reason could there be?

This discussion reminds me of a true statement made by a kindly old fundamentalist I knew years ago. He rejected all new translations, and insisted on only using the King James Bible, because, and this is close to literal, “if those particular words were good enough for the Lord Jesus, they’re good enough for me.”

Because you dislike a trailer to a movie you are racist? Could it be people just don't like it? Or could it be people just don't like Disney ;like they used too? Does it have to have a racial bend to it. I'm quite sure a portion was due to racism but all of them?

 

It obviously depends on why they dislike it. When they say they don't like the fact that she's black, you kinda have to take their word for it that it's about race.
If it's another reason, then it's not about race.
