It would be a step in the right direction, but where are the immigrants in the decision making process? If we are welcoming people as legal residents, they must have choices about where they will reside. Anything else is a compromise to freedom.

    No.
Thanks for jumping to the racist point.
If I’m traversing miles and crossing rivers to sneak into a new country, the last thing I’ll care about is someone referring to me as illegal. Not remotely close or even offensive as calling a black person names.
    What a terrible take.

Caring about other humans is "super sensitive?" Keep in mind the post you responded to possessed much greater content than the "illegal" reference. These are humans, Bluke. They have families, hopes, and dreams just like you and me. Many of their families were destroyed, along with those hopes and dreams, which now only exist in the form of a better life in the U.S. Whether or not they legally deserve that chance is another argument. This is about humanity.

They are following the law as it is and has been written in the US. There are a variety of processes by which the US adjudicates asylum applications. If you are interested in the process, I am sure you can look it up. But please stop with the "Ready, shoot, aim!" stuff.

My original beef is with md for calling people racist. I understand these are humans we’re talking about. I actually like having them here. The process just needs to be safe and more organized.

They easily could have stayed where they were. Stop acting like 50 people were chosen to be sent to the terrible island of the rich and famous. They chose to go after entering our country illegally.

    It worked for both sides.

And now we are talking about the disaster policy in place.

The overwhelming majority of drugs are smuggled through the ports of entry. Individual mules are small potatoes. And the criminals? They aren't entering and requesting asylum. Doing so means surrendering to Border Patrol and giving them knowledge they are in the country. Regardless, immigrants, both documented and undocumented, commit less crime than citizens, in general.

We don’t know the full story. But yes. I don’t think there would be an issue finding 50 migrants who would take a flight to Martha’s Vineyard. Mind you the 1000s entering the cities of Texas every single day. Martha’s Vineyard surely has the resources the lend a hand for a few. Though I did see a lady there say they don’t have room for the 50 migrants sent to Martha’s Vineyard. Talk about LOL!

Assuming for the sake of argument that they entered illegally (which doesn't appear to be the case), I don't think governors have the authority to enforce immigration law, do they? Even assuming they did and DeSantis believes they are criminals, then why not incarcerate them and see how that plays out? Not to mention the fact that they were reportedly in Texas - not Florida. What jurisdiction does DeSantis have there? Plus, it's not like there aren't undocumented people in the State of Florida that he could crack down on. Maybe he is, and I'm just not aware of it. But this whole thing is very strange to me.

All one has to do to understand what is taking place, is to understand that the country is slowly but surely balkanizing. We are on our way to governors and states calling their own shots, not the feds (unless they wish to unleash the military, which I perceive to be highly unlikely). Probably the second best solution for dealing with the chasm that has opened between the people formerly known as "Americans."

The 50 migrants who were flown to Martha's Vineyard agreed to go there under false pretenses. There is no way that you can spin that fact. To their credit the residents of the town have compassion and empathy and rallied to accommodate the migrants although they had no advance notice that the migrants would arrive and the town's one homeless shelter is intended to accommodate 10 residents.

they wanted to come to the US, since when do they get to pick and choose where they go, if coming here is so important, does it matter where?

In the US, we allow people to choose where they live. Been that way for a long time, in fact.

I don’t know that DeSantis believes they were criminals. He provided them services that he felt was in the best interest of the State of Florida under the law. And I would bet the migrants will find it was in their best interest as well.

Maybe DeSantis missed crossing a t or dotting an i on this one.

    I highly doubt it!

I don’t trust the media. Could DeSantis have brought the migrants into his office and said I am sending you to Boston? Maybe. Just as likely it was explained we are going to send you Martha’s Vineyard which is near “Boston”. With the language barrier and reputation of the msm we just do not know.

Regardless…I bet they like Martha’s Vineyard better. Minus the snooty attitudes. :D

For the folks that don’t trust any media. Where do you get your info from?
