Interesting that the article claims that these immigrants from Venezuela are "illegal immigrants." What is the evidence of that (it should be noted that if they are, the Governor of Texas just violated the law by knowingly transporting illegal immigrants across state lines)? Are they asylum seekers, which would make them temporarily legal residents, and thus, not "illegals" by any definition of the word that cares about something other than their race/ethnicity/class?

Not really, as I suspect all of these are asylum seekers, which makes them legal residents. Which makes your term for them, "illegals," little more than a racial slur.

Seems like kind of a self-own to me if he's saying its a better place to live than Florida or Texas

Martha's Vineyard is an interesting choice, in part, because Massachusetts has a Republican Governor and I read at least that Martha's Vineyard is the least Democratic Congressional district in the state.

Seems pretty callous for the self-described Christian party to be using human beings like this as pawns for political capital.

As I stated in a post in another thread, the Venezuelans are seeking asylum from a Marxist dictatorship in their home country. It used to be that the Republicans welcomed refugees from left-wing dictatorships but I guess that only applies to refugees from a certain very large island located immediately to the south of Florida.

Huh? I am pretty sure that Biden didn't refer to legal residents as "illegals" nor treat them as cargo.

Shameful to take glee in this. The immigrants were expected elsewhere and they were used as tools to score pints by being dropped off where no one was ready for them. Abbot certainly thinks he “owned the libbies,” just like DeSantis did. What they actually did was show themselves and all those who think a point was made by this, to be cruel and sick. Not even smart enough to know that they are outing themselves. Venezuelans are legal immigrants. They have TPS status and can work.

Hell’s Kitchen isn’t too shabby either. Vibrant neighborhood with nice places to live and home to a bunch of good restaurants and bars.

Maybe not a Martha’s Vineyard but not a bad place to live or visit.

How about, instead of dropping this migrants off in places that aren't expecting them, we set up a system where those needing labor can put in requests for the help they need. And then the migrants can choose where they want to go, as long as they are legal asylum seekers, and understand they will be required to do the work once they arrive at their destination? Maybe we can call it a guest worker program? And if these immigrants aren't accepted for asylum, we shouldn't just send them home. Maybe, just maybe, we should allow them to stay for a time on the guest worker visa, and after a while, once the visa expires, either they return, or get a citizenship pathway?

Hmm. I wonder where I've heard plans like this before? Maybe the bi-partisan 2007 plan, and again, the bi-partisan 2013 Gang of 8 plan?

If you actually want to solve anything, you first have to realize the immigrants are coming not because they are being pulled to the US, but because they are being pushed out of their home. They come here because we're still the land of opportunity. If that ever changed, so would the migration pattern. But they would still flee their homes. They would just land elsewhere. So once you learn we can't really stop the flow unless we sabotage our country so bad to make it a similar 3rd world area these immigrants are leaving, the best option becomes controlling the flow. No better way then the guest worker program.

No matter how I look at this, I come to the same conclusion: it was bush league by two governors appealing to the worst in or of us. Those applauding that are giving free rein to the worst in themselves, using those families so despicably.

Just to quibble, originally most of the refugees were supporters of the oppressive right wing dictatorship of Batista and are now mostly right wingers in America. However, as I've often said, the only difference between the two extremes is who's doing the oppressing. Right now in America, It's Trump and his MAGA sheep.

As I said in another thread, childish but effective. It has the issue on every national news. Also exposing various cities to everyday life in Texas.

It also feeds the base. Point GOP.
