Insulting derogatory terms like weak and pathetic are personal. Does it make your argument stronger to do that or does it just make you feel stronger and more in charge?? With respect to the science of covid, we will agree to disagree. Cal was thrilled to be rid of Lapado and no university should have the governor force them to hire anyone

Thank Odin that your view didn’t exist when I took AP Englishbin the 80s. My teacher certainly didn’t teach off of any standard script. It was mostly a philosophy class that taught proper writing. He changed my relationship with school and I am certain I would not have made it through my Masters in Accounting without the philosophical ideas and the way he enabled me to enjoy learning. He was also a football coach who played under “The Bear”. I was referred to as the lizard lover.

We read a little Karl Marx along with Anne Rand. Mostly Nietche, Camus and Dostoyevsky. We had to take what we learned about existentialism and compare it with Jack Nicholson’s character in “One Flew Overbthe Coocoos nest”. Best non-core class I took at Florida was a sociology professor who threw the standard crap in the can; we studied MAD and the effect of “Star Wars” on the concept. Cool class and actually made us think.

Do you have any evidence to support this? Much of what I have read expresses deep concerns about academic freedom in the state of FL. It seems obvious that UF's reputation has and will continue to take a hit within academic circles. What do you offer that contradicts that?

This one does not speak directly to faculty unrest, but clearly demonstrates the weakness of the DeSantis mandate to poll students and staff re: Political indoctrination. How sad.

It is not personal at all. Weak arguments are trying to deflect by insinuating you are a victim of something non existent.

We will agree to disagree on Ladapo. But the data is clear. And UF along with the state of Florida has landed a huge asset.

All these controversies lack merit. But some just want to follow the propaganda. With a faculty as large as UF you are going to have disgruntled professors. And unfortunately it leads to baseless negative news…

Would you say that you are somebody who just wants to follow the propaganda? Because it seems like you are. For example, linking a piece written by obviously interested parties and believing it on its face because you want to believe it, not because you brought any actual support to back it.

I never insinuated I was a victim, my point is that we all lose when we use inflammatory and derogatory language. It degrades the ability to communicate and puts us in opposition with no respect for each other. That just widens the divide that separates us and weakens us as a whole. It is a hallmark of MAGA and always has been

They wrote an opinion piece in an attempt to save face. The biggest issues are with the state, though, not the university. It's not Fuchs's fault that the governor is an ass. And no matter what you think, the controversies are sullying UF's reputation. That was, after all, the point of consideration.

No. I am confident that UF is not the terrible institution some seem to want to believe it is because a few meritless stories. But keep trying to bring UF down if you think it is that bad.

    UF will keep chugging along.

So you aren't the person who just want to believes in propaganda because you found propaganda that told you what you want to believe and that propaganda made you more confident in those beliefs?

Knock it off with the strawman. We all love UF, here. Some of us taught there and have multiple degrees, etc. Nobody wants to believe what you purport.

Nothing in what I said that you responded resembled anything of a personal attack or authoritarian.

You are the one trying to deflect and make the argument that MAGA is wrong and bad. Funny thing is you are actually doing what you tried to accuse me of. Well maybe you actually mean MAGA is a positive thing…

You clearly don’t believe the President and apparently do want to believe that UF is doing everything wrong.

All because of DeSantis it appears. No way we have a great Governor and University. Impossible…;):):D:devil::ninja3:

Absolutely. I have a friend who is involved in hiring there. My friend was lamenting that they were struggling to find star professors to fill the spots of those leaving, particularly professors of color.
