California has a growing number of public school students taking AP exams. EdData - State Profile - California Public Schools
It is the newest data available (and the last data prior to the pandemic). What is your evidence that they have reduced AP classes?
It's all about "equity" BS and race crap... To me it's as simple as reverse discrimination. California seeks end of advanced math courses in name of social justice Access to Advanced Classes is Denied — Save Math It's all about dumb-ing down math... California's controversial math overhaul focuses on equity
So your evidence is a draft non-binding proposal that hasn't even been approved? In reality, more California students are taking AP classes. BTW, California improved 8th Grade Math Scores from 2011-2019 more than Florida did. NAEP Mathematics: State Average Scores
They have 48 million people there... Duh, that's going to give you a numerical advantage on every other state. But they are trying hard to kill AP math classes... some universities are trying to admit students based on equity and not SAT scores. The Left is doing their level best to dumb down all education in the U.S.A. based on race. Try not to deny that FACT!
Sure, we had word problems when I was a kid like, “If Mom baked a dozen cookies, and Tommy ate three, how many cookies are left ?” Nowadays be like, “How many cops does it take to subdue a large, drug-addled felon ?”
More California students are taking the tests than previously did. The comparison is California to California in the past. And the proposal was about Middle School math, not AP, which is in high school. And California is gaining in middle school math performance compared to Florida from 2011-2019. Always frame it as a personal attack if you dare to disagree. That is the MAGA way. There can be no legit opinion that differs. Can you see the authoritarian nature of that mindset?
If you are truly willing to look at it objectively, here are many of the concerns. And note that this is a national college org publishing this, so it’s not nothing in academic circles. And a decent portion of our ranking comes from peer reputation. Florida's Stop WOKE Act Strips Academic Freedoms | BestColleges
And yet Florida is rated as #1 in Freedom Education. California is now teetering on the brink of woke-ness taking over all aspects of their lives, and that will include their educational system. The are NOT #1 for several reasons and we here in Florida have much more freedom than California does.
That place is a serious mess. I guess they can lean on their perceived superiority as the water and electricity runs out.
Which is the point that was being made: that metric (as defined by this groups) seems like a ranking that is completely divorced from quality. When Louisiana, West Virginia, and Mississippi are in the Top 10 of your rankings for education, that is the unavoidable conclusion.
More kids in AP is a product of numbers a advantage. It's not a result of the system in place. And California is working to change the system... But we here in Florida have been ahead of the curve in many ways for years. But don't confuse that with a numerical advantage. More is not better in that statistic. It's about freedom of education. Does the state of California mandate 'gays is history' as a class to be taught? Just curious... if that's true. I'm not even sure Florida has a mandatory class to be taught. Maybe American History?
Once again (I don't know how many times I need to say this): the comparison was California in the most updated data with previous California data. They have a growing number of students taking AP exams. And yes, more is "better" if the goal is to get more students to take advanced classes. Yes, Florida has many mandatory classes, as does California. No, Gays in History is not one.
