people here follow politics far more than the average person (and often not in a good way). A survey in 2010 had only 59 percent even able to name the VP. Who Knows What About Religion
Lol, you think it’s gotten better? A month before the election in 2016, 40 percent couldn’t name the VP candidates. https://theweek.com/speedreads/6526...mericans-cant-name-vice-presidential-nominees in 2017, only 26 percent could name the 3 branches of government Americans Are Poorly Informed About Basic Constitutional Provisions | The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania this country is shockingly ignorant in many ways.
well I am fairly confident that only seeking out news sources that reinforce one’s world view and then mocking alternate points of view isn’t it. Which is half of the posts in this forum seemingly.
Too Hot is nothing like my everyday life. To be honest, it gives me proximity to the other side that I just don't have in my real life. THAT or the anonymity of being in a forum allows people you rub shoulders with everyday to express their true selves. I lean towards the latter to be honest. Especially if I still lived in the South.
Disagree. It's the best thing to happen to mankind. You're just seeing what's always been there. We've simply been less aware of it. The internet has so much power to educate and democratize information. It certainly can lead to bad things (proliferation of conspiracy theories and misinformation), but the good outweighs the bad.
Those damn liberal hacks and their relentless pursuit of free childcare for single working women. Abominable. And don’t get me started on their push to address man-made climate change.
Being informed sharpens your oppositition or support to things you didnt care about before you were informed about them
I don't think there's any question that the anonymity of the internet allows or encourages people to say things they wouldn't say in person. The fact is there's a lot of animosity out there across the political and cultural spectrum. Online, you have people not only saying what they're thinking, but going well beyond what they really think just to get a rise out of others. It didn't just start. Fifteen years ago, CBS quit allowing comments on Obama and his candidacy because so much racism was being posted. I don't have a lot of experience with other message boards, but from what I've seen, Too Hot is fairly tame because it's moderated. If it weren't, I think most of the people here now would still act reasonably, but you'd have some start throwing a lot more insults around which would either result in more insults thrown back or the more reasonable people simply leaving. Even though it is moderated, I'm sure there are people who find it too caustic and repetitive and simply leave. A few days ago, a poster went on a tear with stupid insults in post after post. It's was ridiculous. Another mod cleaned it up.
So people are now saying what they are thinking and don’t care if they get a rise out of people? If I got my history correct, we had a president just like that
