RIP. Truly the end of an era. So crazy to think she had been queen for 29 years when I was born. Will be so weird/interesting to see a new monarch regardless of who it is.
Yep. Most of us arent that big on all of it, bit we certainly have noticed over the years and to see it all change for the first time in our lives will be weird. @LimeyGator can keep us updated I am sure.
I don't either, BUT I also understand that she's been around long enough to be an institution so I get the interest.
Off with your head!!! Didn't you watch Game of Thrones? She was the oldest living Queen and face of the United Kingdom. While her authority is gone, this type of rule goes back centuries. From an historical perspective it was an incredible run by a monarchy.
It's not just the media, it's also the average US citizen that has a fascination with the royal family, especially the Queen and before her Diana. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but that's the reality. The Brits will now have a new Prime Minister and a new King. Gives the media something else to cover I guess besides the usual. IMO, the Queen should have passed on her crown to her son long ago in what would have been a nice bit of pageantry for the Brits.
stunning to realize she was queen longer than about 98% of the posters here have been alive, 70 plus years
I think the whole fascination with royalty is dumb. But she was still a head of state, and a remarkable institution in and of herself. She was in power longer than most all of her subjects were even alive.
I want to send that whole family my deepest condolences... Queen Elizabeth II was and will always be remembered as the friend the U.S.A. could count on in Britain. I will always remember when she led a group of people and sang God Bless America after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. That was pure royalty at it's finest. I even shed a tear while listening to her sign that song. She was a brilliant monarch and I will forever regard her as the best monarch that even lived... the friend the U.S.A will miss dearly. I will miss here dearly. R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth II. You will be missed but never forgotten.
What a coincidence! I also see this seemingly unrelated event as a confirmation of all my preexisting biases!
