2024 QB DJ Lagway

It’s so much easier to support a coach when you know they’re a good person. Not sure about the last 4, but Urban won so we tolerated him. Champ tried really hard but was over his head. The last two guys just quit working mid-season (after each win the SECE) like it was a summer job they didn’t want to do any more.

Billy is different. The intensity of Saban mixed with the sincerity of SOS.

So while there are no guarantees to winning, I’ll support him to the bitter end if he stays true to who he is, and to how he does things.

 

What is so cool is that many of us don't see any "flame outs"...
that there are no "bitter ends."

I think the difference is he is smart/wise enough to realize that while it is a high profile job, it is still a job, and you need time for family and personal well-being. We all wondered why he needed an "army" of staffers but I honestly think he realizes that's what keeps Saban going, what will keep Smart going, and hopefully what will keep him going.

Even Spurrier back in the day used to say that most of his peers burned themselves out while he went and played golf. He could get away with it because he was a savant who could put on a coaching clinic just by giving him a marker and a napkin. But the vast majority of coaches, that won't work. Billy recognizes that and I applaud him for making that a requirement. I think the players will appreciate it too. Across most industries, there has been a goal to ensure that employees care for their mental health/well being, and rightfully so, that makes for better employees. Napier just learned that from Saban. On a side note, I could see Saban coaching another ten years.

Is this an unofficial? I haven’t heard of it being an official. Hoping his official is vs LSU. Have to assume he’ll attend the aTm game, as well. 3 Gator games for a TX recruit would say a lot, IMO.

 

Pretty sure it’s an unofficial. Most of the officials are slated for the LSU game.
