I agree with Lurker. The Gators lost the match in game 1 when they had 7 set points and came up empty. The Cardinal had 1 set point and made it count. When we were up 5-1 in the 5th, I thought we left an outside hitter in too long. She was blocked 3 times and it changed the momentum. We needed to have the Russian in that spot, and it would have been worth taking a TO to get her back in. Once the momentum was lost, we couldn't get it back. Stanford was beatable last night, but so was Florida. This match would have been a Sweet 16 matchup in post season. Both teams can improve and both teams have a lot to look forward too. I like this team's potential a lot. I think they are good enough to get into the top 8 in post season. I hope we have enough to take the SEC back from Kentucky. Time will tell.
I don't think I have ever seen as many students show up. Was it the free t-shirts? Or that dorms are looking for a early semester "break the ice" event? Whatever -- without exaggeration, there was not a single seat in the main student section open. Not one. The write-up of the game didn't do justice to the first set. Yeah, it was 31-29, but UF had seven set points and the Stanford points were just side-outs. Crowd: set point -- stand-up, sit-down, repeat, repeat repeat. The first set point Stanford had they won. I don't know that much about volleyball, but it seems like we are using the slide a lot this year, whereas rarely last year. Perhaps that's due to this team having a different skill set than last years. Setter is a work in progress, it seems. Some good, some not so much. Young and hopefully will improve. Don't agree with the earlier post that Mary needs to call timeouts quicker. Unless there is something that the coaches actually see that needs to be changed, I think its good to have confidence and let the team try to work themselves out of momentum shifts (within reason, of course). Were the four consecutive ace's a record? Don't think I've see that before.
It has been a few days, but weren't the Gators up 24-22 and serving in the first set? I might not have that correct, but it seems like it was something like that.
Correct. Gators had 7 set points I believe and the fighting trees only one, that unfortunately is the one that counted.
OMG -- thanks for the head's up. Second set seems to be going better. BIG10 network has 60 minutes free... UF better wrap this up fast!
Hugh McCutcheon is just on another level. Unfortunately SEC skill level will never get any team ready to win a Natty.
1 title and it’s enough ? You guys are delusional!!! 1 year doesn’t equate to being in the same level. And that says a lot about Mary wise. How long has she been the coach at Florida?? Lmao
Sir, there is no need for personal insults, telling a poster to "learn the game and then we can talk" is just not appropriate. And you said: With a smile, it was pointed out that your statement is factually incorrect. An SEC team did win a Natty. You can go laugh your ### off as much as you want, but there is just no reason to have ad hominem attacks. Posters are not "delusional" simply because they disagree with you. What makes this forum great is that we disagree with each other politely and with respect.
Saying Kentucky won a natty makes the SEc competitive because of one year is delusional. That’s like saying acc football is equally competitive as sec football because Clemson won a natty. the fact is big ten and pac 12 have dominated the sport for many years and will continue to dominate the sport. the reason why you get the close but no cigar with UF is 1. They don’t play in enough battles to be ready for conferences that battle top 10s every single night. 2. There are many many coaches and club directors that steer heir top elite athletes away from from Florida due to the coaching. I’ve seen it first hand more times then I can count.
