Now we just need some serious measures of our own to increase oil, natural gas, and food production to push that teetering Russian economy over the breaking point. And I mean before winter when the odds tip back in Russia’s favor.

Russian soldiers Yortuk and Georg Festrunk (two wild and crazy guys) were caught chasing the foxes on-line in Melitopol, and accidentally gave away the location of their military base to Ukrainian hackers known as "Hackyourmom" when they sent pictures of their pants with great bulges in them. The hackers then alerted the Ukrainian military, causing the Russian base to be blown up. Georg and Yortuk then had to be told that they had been hosed down by the Ukrainian foxes...

Ukrainian hackers created fake profiles of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sharing their location, report says. Days later, the base was blown up.

Not sure how fast we can ramp up oil production but additional nat gas production wouldn't help the EU as our exports are limited by lng export facilities that are maxed out. Food production decisions shoukd have been made long ago. Eliminate farm subsidies to not plant, cit out ethanol requirements.

Fyi, US is on path to record oil production in 2023. Industry is being constrined by labor and supplies right now. Hopefully Biden is finalizing contracts to replenish SPR and that will jumpstart some large deepwater field development.

Ukraine video of abandoned Russian positions confirms how poorly supplied and organized russian troops

Putin forces "confused" by Ukraine strikes, headed for surrender: General

According to Hertling's analysis on Twitter, the footage indicated "extremely poor soldier discipline" and "horrible fieldcraft/training" in the Russian army. It appeared that lower-level leadership was in crisis while senior leaders were not circulating information, said Hertling. Meanwhile, morale was plunging and the potential for disease was rising, he said.

Now that Nord Stream I and II have been shut off European nations are not happy. Fact Europe is running short of natural gas and electricity prices are skyrocketing. People are upset and rigthfullly so. The question is how much more pain is Europe willing to impose on their citizens. Keep in mind even if Europe gets through the winter come spring gas still needs to be replenished. It is abundantly clear gas shortages are here to stay until the war in Ukraine is resolved. Keep in mind the US will suffer as well and we are seeing it with higher utility bills.

Tens of thousands protest against Czech government
Tens of thousands of protesters from the far right and far left joined forces to rally against the country’s pro-Western Czech government in the capital on Saturday.

Police estimated that the crowd at Prague's central Wenceslas Square numbered around 70,000.
    .......
They condemned the government for its support of the sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine and accused it of not being able to tackle soaring energy prices. The demonstrators also criticized NATO, and the European Union and the 27-nation bloc's plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reach climate neutrality. The country belong to both organizations.

EU to Hold Emergency Energy Meeting on Sept. 9, Czechs Say
The Czech Republic, which holds the European Union’s rotating presidency, called an extraordinary meeting of energy ministers to discuss a bloc-wide solution to the spike in power markets.

The meeting, which will take place in Brussels on Sept. 9, will debate concrete measures to tackle the energy crisis, according to Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela. The energy market “has stopped functioning and we have to fix it,” Sikela told reporters in Prague on Monday.

Europe nears recession amid cost-of-living crisis
Monday also saw the euro drop below 99 U.S. cents for the first time in 20 years.

It comes after Russia said its main gas pipeline to Europe would stay shut indefinitely.

Gas prices soared as much as 30% across Europe in response.

That only added to fears of a recession and a tough winter ahead for business and households hit hard by rising energy prices.

ArcelorMittal to close parts of steel plants in Germany and Spain
ArcelorMittal Germany CEO Reiner Blaschek said: “The high costs for gas and electricity are putting a heavy strain on our competitiveness.

“On top of that, from October onwards, there will be the German government’s planned gas levy, which will further burden us.

“With a tenfold increase in gas and electricity prices, which we had to accept within a few months, we are no longer competitive in a market that is 25% supplied by imports.
    .......
“We see an urgent need for political action to get energy prices under control immediately.”

More Americans struggling to pay utilities, but there are options
The National Energy Assistance Directors Association estimated that 1 in 12 households struggled to make payments before the pandemic. Now, that number is 1 in 6. With Congress choosing not to extend the expanded Child Tax Credit and 2022 being among the hottest summers on record, more people are struggling to make payments.

“They don't have a lot of choices. They cut back on food, they cut back on medicine, they drive less,” said Mark Wolfe with the National Energy Assistance Directors Association.

If they,(europe) can't find a way to get thru the oil/gas shortage with russia cutting supplies, Europe will forever be sucking on Russia's tit. It was a huge mistake for them to become dependent on Russian energy supplies.

curious as to why you continue to accentuate the negative side of the war just like Russian would want..

Do you think that the rest of the world should learn to cope with temporary higher energy prices while Ukraine is being attacked by a foreign invader or should we continue our dependence on the butcher in Moscow?

It feels like you would support the pusher to maintain your addiction even if the pusher was killing their other addicts...that is exactly the attitude that created the addiction to begin with.

And the export of nat gas from the US is a win for US nat gas producers, pipeline owners, LNG facility operators, and the property owners receiving royalties from the leases on their lands. Higher prices also make it more economically feasible to build collection systems to reduce flaring. These price increase should stabilize and reduce as additional gas is drilled for that wasn't being tapped before when nat gas supplies were exceeding demand.

fyi, the UE hit their 80% storage a full 2 months ahead of time

EU Reaches Gas Storage Goal Early Despite Russian Supply Cut - Bloomberg

The European Union met its gas storage filling goal two months ahead of target as the bloc braces for a tough winter with Russia limiting supplies and energy contracts trading at elevated levels throughout the continent.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen celebrated the milestone on Monday, telling an audience at an energy conference in Denmark that the reserves hit an average of 80%, a target the EU had aimed to reach by Nov. 1.

The EU bolstered its storage rules earlier this year after levels last winter turned out lower than in past years, particularly in German sites controlled by Russian exporter Gazprom PJSC, a factor that led to a jump in prices.

Ukraine has agreed to help supply Germany with electricity

Ukraine to supply Germany with electricity to cut reliance on Russia, says PM Shmyhal | Russia Ukraine Crisis (republicworld.com)

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, during his visit to Berlin, said that his country is prepared to supply Germany with electricity in order to help alleviate the energy crisis witnessed by Europe’s largest economy as well as help the bloc cut its dependence on Russian energy imports. In a statement to the German news agency DPA, Shmyhal said: "Currently, Ukraine exports its electricity to Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, and Poland. But we are quite ready to expand our exports to Germany."

Norway's July natural gas exports hit record high as demand, prices soar | Reuters

Spain is working with Italy and France to build new pipelines or increase capacity on existing facilities so that the spanish LNG facilities can accept more LNG imports

Spain says gas pipeline to France possible in 8-9 months | Reuters

MADRID, Aug 12 (Reuters) - A potential new gas connection between Spain and France could be ready to operate in less than a year's time, Spanish Energy Minister Teresa Ribera said on Friday, if France and other European countries agreed on the project.

The European Union is racing to wean itself off Russian natural gas after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, bringing new interconnection projects into focus. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday pushed for the construction of a pipeline from Portugal via Spain and France to central Europe.

"This new interconnection, this gas pipeline could be operating in about eight or nine months on the southern side of the border, that is, from the Pyrenees to Spain," Ribera told the national broadcaster TVE. The France-Spain connection would require laying another segment of pipeline to connect the Spanish grid to the French one.

Scholz said that a pipeline connecting the Iberian peninsula with central Europe would "massively relieve the supply situation now", adding that he had already spoken to leaders from Spain, Portugal, France and the European Commission about it.

Germany just approved the lease of a floating LNG facility to be operational before next winter

Germany Announces New LNG Facility, a Move Away From Russian Energy - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

The German government on Thursday took another step toward reducing its dependence on Russian energy, reaching an agreement on acquiring a fifth facility for importing liquefied natural gas. The new facility, a floating terminal with a five-year lease, will be the second at Wilhelmshaven, a port in northern Germany that is becoming a key energy hub.

The terminal will have capacity for importing about 6 percent of Germany’s gas consumption. By backing these facilities, the government hopes to provide Germany, Europe’s largest economy, with a substantial buffer against any further cutoffs of Russian supplies.

Thursday’s deal is also a potential stride for green energy. The group of investors and companies behind the new L.N.G. terminal have ambitions to supply green energy in the form of hydrogen to Germany and other countries at a scale that might make a difference in tackling climate change, and the L.N.G. deal appears to give the group’s plans the imprimatur of the German government.

you do realize that infrastructure advancements are marathons and not sprints, or maybe you don't care as it wouldn't advance your narrative. not sure but either way your claim wreaks of nothing more than a partisan talking point with no real substance behind it and has nothing to do with the war in Ukraine

I talk of the negative because it affects everyone and we are beginning yo fully understand the negative aspects of this war. Specifically on European nations and a global economy. People will only put up with so much when their basic needs are threatened. This is what is happening in Czechoslovakia now and spreading through out the European community.

Now you may not see this as bad news but the European community certainly does. Why we are involved with Ukraine and shouldering the majority of expense in this war is beyond me. Why we are asking European nations to suffer the consequences with a stiff upper lip is beyond me. Destroy the economy of Europe we destroy our own.

freedom isn't free. promoting hardships as a reason to give into naked aggression is not what one would expect out of a nation(s) that value freedom and those unwilling to accept war crimes against humanity. Putin is/was counting on the west to capitulate and accept his aggression just like they did with Crimea. It has been proven over and over again that accommodation only increases aggression. Do you think the west should let Putin win because our electric bills are going up? Which country are you willing to sacrifice next?

Russia can end the negative aspects of this war anytime it chooses. If it was just a matter of them needing roadmaps to find Russia again, we could send them at greatly reduced cost. But as it seems that maps alone are not going to help them find Russia, we send munitions instead.

Our problem is not that we are doing too much to help Ukraine. Our problem is that we are taking half-ass measures as if the end of this war is right around the corner, and we can be postured to go right back to business as usual. Our failure to mobilize our economy for the long war is what is hurting our allies. It is totally within the scope of our power to both crush Russia economically and mitigate the effects of sanctions to NATO/EU.

It's not only ours which you so willingly neglect. If you think European nations are happy with the US now I think you need to take much harder look at the facts. Europeans are not ignoring these issues but they certainly understand the US cannot ptovide for their needs. IMO nor should we.

Billions of dollars that are being spent at the moment and the price tag keeps going up. You and I both agree on half-ass measures. I think where you and I disagree is if we get involved in war with Russia I want occupation I don't want destruction and let them rebuild. I don't want half measures whch is what our government in prone to do. Take the nation of Russia and be done with it.

We partially agree. You are 100% correct that the food decision should have been made months ago. I was saying so back in April. It was not, so here we are. The decision still needs to be made and made publicly with immediate effect, if for no other reason than the morale of our allies.

As to LNG, what you say is true but only terms of current capacity, not U.S. potential. Just as the fact that we were at roughly maximum production of aircraft in December 1941 did not mean we could not exponentially increase production with more factories. As I said above, we need to start building for the long war. The demand was not there to support more LNG refineries before. It is now. If we want to crush Russia without risking general war, then we need to do it economically. And that is not just going to happen without economic mobilization.
