There's a good chance that Trump gets charged with the same 3 crimes that Jullian Assange, and Ed Snowden were charged. Trump is on record calling for their execution. Wonder how he feels about that now?
So you're saying that the sensitive/classified documents recovered from Mar-a-Lago weren't in his possession even though he owns the facility, resides there for at least six months out of the year and had boxes of documents moved from the White House to Mar-a-Lago when he departed. Got it.
Perhaps the only difference between what Powell had done when he was Secretary of State and what Hillary did was that Powell used a private email account while Hillary went a step further and used her own email server which was actually more secure than the alternative.
Amazing that this man assumed the office he did. He's not just bad for a public official, he's just a bad and sleazy human. Just common theft
Hope the FBI’s source can help them out with a lot of specificity- need to find something if they go in. Or will DOJ work a deal with trump to get it all back?
So let’s see. First he illegally took the documents, since he had zero right to, since he was no longer a government employee. Then he lied to the authorities about what he had. Stored them in his office allegedly, and for a time just in a big room with little Security. Then add some of the docs are now missing apparently, so at best they have been sloppily mishandled, at worst they have been either hidden or stolen by someone. And oh yeah, a number of the documents were classified, so he broke that law too. so, it’s not a surprise republicans aren’t nearly as loud in their defense of him as they were.
You are aware that declassification requires a formal procedure and there is absolutely no indication that Trump declassified the documents? A president cannot declassify documents solely by proclamation and certainly not after he leaves office. There is also an issue separate and apart from the classification issue. Under the Presidential Records Act, the overwhelming majority of documents that Trump took with him to Mar-a-Lago including unclassified ones belong to the American people and should have turned over to the National Archives when Trump left office, they were not Trump's personal property. By the way the search of Mar-a-Lago was not a "raid". It was a search authorized by a search warrant approved by a judge based on a finding of probable cause. In order to obtain the warrant the FBI had to provide evidence that a crime had been committed and that there was a link between the crime, the documents sought and the premises to be searched.
For a document to be consider classified, the order to declassify needs to be memorialized, and then the docs properly marked. Neither happened with the docs found at Mar-a-Lago. Trump just can't wave a magic declassifying wand and make it so. Regardless, Trump didn't own these docs. They belong to the people, and should have been in the control of the National Archives. In addition, the classification of docs isn't a consideration for the Espionage Act. Last, Trump lied to the FBI about having these docs, and obstructed a legal subpoena when he hid these docs.
I think you are a week or two behind. I don't think Trump is even claiming this now. None of his recent arguments before the courts requesting the special master has even mentioned this. It is a losing argument and his lawyers know it. I think his current defense is this amounts to overdue library books or something like that. Truly mind-boggling.
