So De Furer DeSantis dictates that rainbows are outlawed in schools?

Who benefits from making homophobic bullying more likely to occur?

Homophobic bullies and those that don't like thinking about gay people existing and being bullied?

As a German speaker, it’s “die”. Forgive me if I’m being pedantic.

At the outset, I must admit to occasionally having trouble with comprehension. Was or was not the Superintendent’s letter (which left out the apostrophe in possessive “parents”) an attempt to make things easier for LBQT students?

Sounds like he worried about the district getting sued ...

And that isn't exactly a baseless concern, he has to deal with this idiot (had a thread about her a while ago) who has sued the county several times, citing "rainbow stickers" as one of her complaints. This is an old story, but she currently has a federal case pending against the district ...

Florida’s new parental rights law tests limits, and patience, in Pasco

    Old thread ...

Florida’s “parent’s rights” bill enables nut job parents

That’s the exact issue with these recent “parental rights” movements.

Parents already had their rights. Voting for school boards is essentially a democratic process. You have Parent-teacher meetings and PTA. In many places school choice, magnet schools, or charter schools. Parents were hardly out of the process, lots of teacher anecdotes as to how the overbearing “active” parents were already a bit of a nightmare. At some point you need to let the professionals do their jobs. I thought the same with the freak out against “common core”. I was neither for it or against it, but I was struck by how many abject morons lined up like sheep against it without even an ability to articulate why they opposed it.

Seems like what this has really been about, especially this garbage giving parents the right to “sue” teachers for basically anything, is emboldening the nutjobs as a partisan political play (I.E Steven Bannon organizing to try and take over school boards and such with MAGA nutters to basically embolden them to discriminate freely against minorities… this is what they are all about). I don’t think that’s going to play well in some of the larger districts with more diverse populations, I’m guessing some of these places will grow tired of the shenanigans in a hurry once they see what happens to their schools. I also expect a lot of these types are grifters who aren’t actually serious about doing their jobs in the first place.

Enabling the stupidest, most bigoted, most litigious parents to ruin every other child's experience is exactly what DeSantis and his cronies designed the law to do.

Couldn't articulate why they opposed it, let alone what was in it.

Most teachers don’t allow any bullying, so just dumb.

What’s dumb? Have you ever looked at the stats of how many LTGB kids attempt suicide, say they are harassed at school, say they don’t feel safe at school? It’s like 300% higher among LTGB kids.

Completely separate issue. My take is all bullying is important and good teachers don’t allow it. No reason to single out one group other than to feel self important. Ymmv.

How it's a different issue? When LGBT are 3 or 4 times more likely to be harassed and assaulted on campuses, and may not know who to trust to help. This isn't a "billy stole my lunch money" situation that any school worker would be willing to help with ... I mean, maybe it is helpful to know that Mrs. Johnson with the rainbow sticker isn't a Jesus freak who is going tell the kid to "just stop being gay and your problems will go away".

If one group is much, much more likely to die, we shouldn't put in more effort to help that group?

This is like saying the emergency room doctors shouldn't prioritize, just see people in the order they arrived.

No, you are both taking it to the farcical extreme. Should we have stickers on class rooms for other specific groups feeling persecuted and create little pockets of cliques or should the entire facility be viewed that way? Little crosses for christian groups?
Does a sticker on a room eliminate teen suicide? That seems to be the rallying point. No disagreement that kids get bullied. Social media, kids, parents, relatives are all important.

LBTG kids have about a double suicide risk to other teens. Males have a much higher rate than females. All important data.

We just clearly disagree on the importance of the sticker. Ymmv
