Rents Hit Historic New High; Millions to be Evicted

    If they get evicted, they won’t have an address, and therefore can’t vote. Is that your game?

    Can’t build fast enough to find affordable housing. It would be great if we cared about others and reduce homelessness.

    Some information for those in FL that might be impacted. I encourage those that have some spare change to help those in need.

    5. building materials. Need to innovate like tiny homes and container homes

    6. Tax credits and 1400z programs

    I hope the market works this out. Material costs are coming down. This should lead to more construction. More real estate supply should lead to more moderate rents.

    But if the Fed keeps raising interest rates it won't help. Higher rates leads to less construction.

    No they dont lol. There are a like 3 Airbnbs within a a few square miles of my house. Wanna guess how many mega unit apartment complexes there are.

    But not making people pay rent would certainly push more folks to make that choice.

    We did it partially to keep access to the house for personal guests etc as it is on the same property as our house. The above garage apartment will be similar so that we arent contractually bound to a neighbor we may not like. Plus, its much better business decision for our family.

    No im not. They were never "on the market" . They all came on the same parcel of land built at different times...(it was a part of a small family farm that we bought in a foreclosure) and weve never rented them.

    One of the units is an above garage apartment that shares a driveway with our home. I want the freedom to use it as I wish.

    Why would I risk locking in a lease that we have seen may not have to be paid?

    You also discount the fact that the one house is big enough for several people which makes vacations and traveling much cheaper than hotels would be in a tourist area.

    My guess or maybe hope is a better word is that the fed is posturing. They are threatening and promising higher rates while hoping they won’t be necessary. The market seems to be reacting to the threats. Let’s see what happens with prices.

    Airbnbs are definitely part of the problem. When new condos open here in Austin Airbnb owners rush to buy units. Many condos have a limit on how many units can be short term rentals. I now live in a newly built condo complex of 30 units. Only 6 of them are allowed to be short term rentals and you had to get on a list to do it. There is a long waiting list to get on that list.

    I work on the affordable housing industry.
    One of the biggest issues is land. Keeping folks who need affordable housing close to their neighborhoods, history and families is almost impossible. And moving the outside of a municipality away from public transportation is an issue too.

    Subordinates are moving back into revitalized cities and that pushes people out sadly.

    Probably depends on the city. This is a college/beach town. Plenty of condos of course, but much more of a rental destination due to the large student population. The condos for rent here aren't ones that would fix the affordable housing crisis.

    Ironic thread. Not long ago posters were here complaining about the covid rent abatements and how that wasnt fair to landlords. Now we have a thread on massive tenant evictions and the impact of corporate ownership. Both seem to be Biden's fault per the OP.:rolleyes:o_O

    Let me see if I have this straight:

    1. Out of control rent increases are the fault of unbridled capitalism.
    2. Biden may have to use socialistic practices to deal with it.

    No matter what happens, it's all Biden's fault.

    We didn't cause this problem or any of the other problems that have blown up under Biden. We didn't have these issues when Trp was in office. So you have already seen what we do.
