Liz Cheney will probably lose her primary and although you may be gloating it's a really sad commentary on the state of the Republican Party. Although Cheney is among the most philosophically conservative members of Congress that really doesn't matter because she refuses to kowtow to a delusional but very charismatic narcissist who has somehow managed to a convince a majority of Republicans that the election was stolen from him and for the first time in American history he, the losing candidate, has refused to accede to the peaceful transition of power following an electoral defeat.

 

If the Republicans really wanted an objective investigation of the events of January 6th why did Mitch McConnell block the creation of a 9-11 style independent nonpartisan commission to investigate the failed insurrection? Probably because Mitch and the boys had an inkling that an independent commission would come up with results similar to that of the current House Committee and they wanted to be able to use the excuse that the findings were the result of a partisan hit job.

So you're saying that the Republican party should rid themselves of philosophical conservatives who refuse to kowtow to possibly the most corrupt president in US history and the only one who failed to accede to the peaceful transition of power after losing an election. In essence you're say that it's not a candidate's position on the issues or her allegiance to the rule of law that matter but whether she is willing to acknowledge his cult-like leadership.

Speaking of Al Gore:
This occurred roughly two and a half weeks after the 2000 election. I have yet to see anything remotely similar from Trump. Although a lot of Democrats objected to the process in 2000 there was never a concerted effort led by the defeated candidate to block the Constitutional transition to the new Administration and unlike Trump and his mindless followers the Democrats no matter how much they complained about the process accepted the results of the election following the Supreme Court decision finding in favor of Bush over Gore.

 

Al Gore conceded and the transfer of power went off 100% peacefully. Can't say the same about Trump.

He then went on to make the case that Republicans need to be watching the public hearings of the committee.

“Despite all of the flaws in the structure of the heavily Democrat committee, almost all of the evidence presented so far is coming from eminently credible sources: Republicans,” wrote Mulvaney, noting the conservative bona fides of the likes of former Attorney General Bill Barr, Arizona state House Speaker Rusty Bowers and Hutchinson.

And then he gets to the crux of his argument (and the strongest argument in favor of the committee’s work):

“Yes, it is possible that all of those life-long Republicans succumbed to Trump Derangement Syndrome. It is possible they decided to ignore a life-long political affiliation. It is also possible they chose to perjure themselves about what they saw, heard and know. But if they didn’t, and half of the country isn’t paying attention, then that half of the country is clinging firmly to an opinion of Jan. 6, 2021 that is based on either false or incomplete information.

 

We care because the Republican Party has become a party defined by loyalty to a LYING, ignorant, incompetent, narcissistic, deeply flawed, fascist wannabe dictator, instead of service to your country. In other words, the GQP has become antidemocratic and unAmerican.

given the news of the day I’d resolve the dispute between the comments of the DC police and the comments of the SS agent who denied the event in favor of the DC police with an adverse inference against the SS

 

There's something about Tony Ornato that doesn't pass the smell test. After three years as the head of the Secret Service detail responsible for protecting Trump he was appointed to a political position by the Donald. After Trump left the White House Ornato returned to the Secret Service. Just me but I suspect his first loyalty is Trump rather than to his oath of office.
