To close the gender earnings gap — assuming that is even a desirable goal — wouldn’t involve closing a gender wage gap that doesn’t even really exist, it would involve closing lots of other gender gaps that do exist and lead to gender differences in earnings. Below are 20 gender gaps that reflect gender differences in the labor market, and are gaps that generally favor men and help explain why men earn higher incomes on average than women. (Most of the gender differences below are discussed in Warren Farrel’s excellent book “Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap — and What Women Can Do About It.“)
    1. Men disproportionately gravitate towards higher paying occupations in technology and hard sciences (e.g., petroleum engineer).
    2. Men disproportionately choose higher-risk, higher paying occupations with greater safety risks for occupational injuries and fatalities (e.g., oil field worker, roofer, and logging).
    3. Men are more willing to work outdoors in uncomfortable, physically demanding work environments (construction, oil field workers, commercial fishing, logging).

One thing I was always curious about with the Women's national soccer team was they wanted the same pay as the men which I agree with but they play far less games, so not exactly equal work for equal pay.
If you start talking about how much better than the men they are and they should get more money for performance, I understand that.

I think the women should get the same percentage of the revenue as the men do.

Interesting study. But some professions with mostly are difficult. Nursing is a profession with long demanding hours, requires extensive training, and strict job/performance requirements. Teaching burns out many. Both occupations dominated by women. I generally thought wage comparison studies was more apples to apples. But if the pools being compared include Offshore Drillers to Kindergarten teachers then it’s a valid point.

    good op, thx.

    Are you sure about that?

In 2021, the men had to play the hex and they played 20 games; the ladies also played 20 games (mostly friendly). In 2022, the ladies have played 11, the men 10.

I am sure the men play more games with their “club team”, but the club is different than the national team.

The gender wage gap is a very nuanced statistic and can absolutely be misleading. For instance you can adjust the $0.22 per $1 gap for all the non gender factors like education, industry, job title, etc and get the gap pretty much down to a cent or two... but then the question is if it's not a pay gap from gender then what is driving such a gap in earnings? How much is structural and how much simply gender preference for roles?

If women were smarter they'd realize there wouldn't be a gender wage gap if women were smarter.

I'm not an expert here, but isn't there a wage gap after controlling for all those variables?

Studies I recall usually show $0.05 to $0.01. Its not nothing... its just not the giant number flashed. Ive been in big companies all my life and there isnt much flexibility on wages like there is on hiring to discriminate. I would have a much harder time paying a woman less than a man vs what happens if I simply didnt hire women for leader roles.

Edit: Clarification that is simply hypothetical. It reads like Im a tool.

Well if they play fewer matches that would mean less revenue. By less revenue I mean the revenue produced by mens soccer vs the revenue produced by women’s soccer. Games played is irrelevant it’s money made.

It has to do with the money. Mens soccer from a World standpoint is just far bigger and therefore going to pay more. The weird part for the women in this country is there performance is superior on the National Stage. But at the end of the day…they could not beat the FC Dallas U15 boys. Now maybe the stars were not playing. But…

FC Dallas under-15 boys squad beat the U.S. Women's National Team in a scrimmage

Women are definitely smarter. They know they will outlive us men and will get the money eventually anyway, so leave us guys to chase after the high stress, high paying jobs.

    I am joking, of course.

Agreed. Though it looks like the US in their CBAs did a first to combine some of that. I am not sure if these numbers are still accurate. But the men just making the World Cup would bring in double the Women if the Women win the World Cup. There is just far more money on the Mens side. That said US Womens soccer is very entertaining and outperforms the US Men for entertainment to many here. But when you get outside our borders it is a completely different situation based on the money.

I acknowledged they likely did not have their best. But let's be honest. If the US Men's team played the US Women's team...

It would be a blowout that no one would want to watch.

Also...The US Women's Team is far more entertaining to watch that the Men's imo. But they do not generate the revenue. As shown by the World Cup. The Women's champion gets half of what the qualifiers in the Men's get.

Just a weird situation in the US when it comes to soccer. On the more real level...as shown. There is not a real wage gap when you try to look at it apples to apples.
