He's one of the most intriguing prospects in this incoming class. Lefty and listed on one place at 5-9 170. (One article has him at 6-2 215.) Said to be one of youngest prospects in the class. Rather good three pitch mix. At one All Star game pitched 4 innings with 10 kos, no runs or hits. An observer called his performance "filthy". Here's hoping Debbie Downers don't interpret that on the worst way.
In the link I'm posting, it lists him at 5'10", 175 lbs. in the section where his picture is located. But then in the write up further down the page it says he's 6'2" 215 lbs. Quite a difference. But overall what they say about the kid is pretty impressive. Chris Arroyo Class of 2022 - Player Profile | Perfect Game USA
My draft card and original driver's license had me at 5-10 145. I then got a lot older and got to 5-8 190 some years ago, now, thankfully, a lot less in weight. So by Spring 2023 he could be anything from 5-8 150 to 6-3 225.
Arroyo attended Marjorie Stoneman Douglas HS and was in same class as our Soph Jake Clemente. Clemente was an early enrollee some thought might be a first rounder. He's said to be in the mix as a weekend starter next year Couldn't find out what class of ball they played. That high school was the site of the shooting that killed 17 students.
Douglas High is one of the best HS programs in the country and plays a top schedule each year. He and RHP Jake Clemente are both incoming FR this year and while neither may be ready for a weekend starting spot, both have good arms and have a chance to be contributors this season. And Sully has developed a pipeline at Douglas. Two more pitchers have committed to UF for the 2023 class and one, Christian Rodriguez, has a chance to be special.
I can “hear” it in your typing, “Did they play guys like Greg? Cause, well, that is a little less impressive to be nice…”
Something wrong with the two sizes listed: 5-9 170 6-2 215 Hardly nobody grows that much in one year. Though I remember one story saying Bill Walton had a six inch growth spurt when he was 16 outgrowing the ligaments in his knees. A problem that dogged him all his playing years
I graduated 8th grade at 5' 4" and was 6' 0" at the end of my freshman year of high school. I have stretchmarks on my knees.
That’s good stuff Lurk-we kinda ran parallel to each other. Back then in Georgia grades 7-8-9 made up JrHS. HS was grades 10-11-12. At the end of my 9th grade year I was 5’11”—3months later I reported to HS 10th grade at 6’4”—the basketball coach was happy….
I grew 8 inches over 2 years and then only grew 2” for the rest of my adolescence. I have grown sideways however…
Anthony Rizzo of Yanks attended MSD HS. Made significant donations to his HS for lighting and equipment upgrades when with Cubs.
David Robinson grew 5 inches the summer between his freshman and sophmore years at the Naval Academy. I guess no pilot or submarine duties for him at seven feet tall.
