What exactly is the point of this line of questioning?

I would say most people wouldn’t say half of what is said in here real life - that’s one of the benefits of such a forum. We can speak truthfully on issues but not be burdened with the typical toxic consequences of talking politics on social relationships.

When I made the statement it was not directed at people who have experienced miscarriages. If they are offended, sorry, but it doesn’t mean what I said as a general statement isn’t true.

By the same token I would not expect for somebody to say to my face sorry I think the government should force your family to give birth. If they did I perhaps would make that point. If they had a personal experience with miscarriage and were offended, I’m sorry, they brought it up.

This particular line of questioning is akin to children in playground saying “you gonna say that to my face?”

This doesn't sound like you are actually against abortion then, just the 'unfairness' that the man doesn't get to decide it.

That is why I keep putting forth that reasonable people like tilly are being used by extremists who are pro fetus and anti women. Stalin used to call fellow travelers useful idiots. I don’t think Tilly is an idiot but he is being used.

We are seeing a lot here of what right wingers love to do which is try to negate arguments focusing on irrelevant details:

American Christians aren't anything like the Taliban. The Taliban wears turbans!

Seriously. You are factually incorrect. A fetus is certainly not breathing in the amniotic fluid in the womb. My only supposition if you are claiming not to oppose abortion from a religious reason is that you hate women.

Fair enough. I’d just reiterate that ‘nobody’ or ‘almost nobody’ is way too broad a description based on personal experience.
But I would bet that you’ve known people who have experienced loss that you wouldn’t be so crass or brash as to say no biggie it wasn’t really a child.

You are wrong here. I have never parented a child but I do know people who have grieved the loss of a miscarriage as much as the loss of a new born.

Hmm. So if everyone has a different opinion, it’s almost like it should be left up to the woman and there should be no such thing as govt “forced birth”.

The comparison isn’t as asinine as you think. These laws are getting pushed by religious fundamentalists trying to inject religious law (in some cases now blatantly waging war on the constitution itself, overtly claiming the U.S. is a Christian nation). The funny thing is on the abortion issue some of the religious fundamentalists in the U.S. are drawing an even harder line than the Taliban. So with that in mind, why do you think the comparison is off base? Seems the only answer is you think Christian fundamentalism = ok and Islamic fundamentalism = evil. But I happened to think *all* religious fundamentalism is a path towards evil. Hence, I draw little distinction between them.

You know, its a valid point. I agree my use of radical is probably a subconscious attempt to shut people up.

    Your point is valid.

We had 2 miscarriages before we had our second kid. It was NOT like losing a child. Not even close. Sad yes. But losing the hope of a kid isn’t the same as losing a kid. I’ve seen people who lost a kid. It breaks you.

No, he and you consider a fetus or an embryo to be a baby because of your religious views.

The truth is the truth. There's no reason to conflate a clump of cells with an infant. They're not remotely the same thing. The people who do so overwhelmingly have something in common, certain religious views.
