Your point? Dictator Biden can fix this.

In terms of interest rates, the first home we purchased in the late 70s was a 15% adjustable-rate loan because the fixed rate was 18%. There is nothing wrong with these still low interest rates given our high level of inflation at 8.5% and headed back up with the end of draining the SPR.

Higher interest rates are a shock to younger people, but the rates today are still historically low. In the late 70s, I met an older highly successful entrepreneur. The interest rates were out of sight, and we were experiencing stagflation similar to now. His message to me was what goes around comes around and that we'd one day see 0% interest rates again. He proved to be prophetic.

I hope we don't have to have those high interest rates again, but what goes around comes around. We are fixed on a higher interest rate path now, but it didn't have to be this way:

-Inflation started with Biden's war of fossil fuels

-Fed govt doesn't believe govt spending increases inflation
    -----$1.9 trillion unneeded covid spending
    -----Fed unemployment ran too long
    -----$450 billion semiconductors
-----$750 billion for inflationary and woke tax and spend
    -----$500 billion student loan forgiveness

The look on Jerome Powell's face yesterday said it all. Biden's student loan forgiveness plan came after Powell had stated he would not let lower gas pump prices stand in the way of fighting inflation. This started with Powell when Biden summoned him to a White House meeting late in the spring in which he was told the fed reserve would be the inflation fighter. We now know that meant the Biden Administration was going to continue to spend like a drunken sailor on Saturday night shore leave.

I say this to reinforce that we are nowhere near the top of rising interest rates and that I stagflation is not near done running its course plus it is a long way down to the fed 2.0% inflation target. I'd be happy with anything between 2% and 3%. Again, I hope interest rates don't go back to Paul Volker levels, but what goes around comes around.

The worst news is that the fed reserve has never been put in a position like this to be raising interest rates in a recession. It's only going to make the economy worse, but the #1 job of the fed reserve is to keep inflation in check. They are behind schedule because it took too long before they acted originally believing inflation was transitory.

Lol, huh? The headline rate includes both gas and food and is at 8.5%. Did you confuse it with the core rate? I am wondering if you added the two rates together to get to 14%...

Freedom lovers like you define freedom of speech and thought as speech you like. Speech you don’t like— like so called “woke” speech— can be feels punished by the state in your view of a free state. And those who choose to not express or pass along speech they don’t like, but you do, can also be punished in your view of a free state. As to say, there is “nothing wrong” with the anti-woke law that was just struck down as unconstitutional. Your vision of freedom is a classic feature of an autocracy or dictatorship. You are “free” to speak if the state agrees with your speech. But, there are “consequences” if the speech is not approved by the state. Another hallmark of a dictatorship is the accusation; for example, you use of the words “democratic socialism.” You probably understand that socialism is defined to require that the state own your business and property, but you use the term incorrectly to define those that disagree with you as the “enemy.” Your despicable ideas are dangerous; they enable the enemies of real freedom. So, every once in awhile, I am going to call you out on your advocacy of autocracy. True freedom allows you to express these ideas. And true freedom allows everyone else to repudiate your ideas for what they are. And you for what you are to express them. Imagine a state whose laws would punish you for expressing these ideas and would require an @ETGator1 owned forum to carry woke ideas. At the risk of punishment if you didn’t carry or express them.

Bottom line, it's not freedom when it starts with the fed govt and is forced on people when they don't want it. It didn't help that the US KGB declared parents concerned for their children's education to be domestic terrorists or that the US KGB asked the national school board to write a letter to them asking for help so they could force their woke issues over the will of the people at the local level. You have exactly zero to stand on. Virginia was turned from blue to red overnight on this issue alone.

With Dictator Biden in charge, I'm having a hard time deciding how those in the White House are not both socialists and fascists.

Your side likes to say republicans are facists, but that is far from the truth. Trump or Trump Lite is just the face of the Make America Great Again movement which I'm proud to belong to. I may be a rube, but not a fascist.

    Chicago
Chicago is hardly a cesspool. 27 US cities have a higher murder rate, most of of them in the south. Doesn't anyone in your family want the dirt on Miami Gardens? They're #12 with 23.62 murders per 100,000. FYI, the murder rate in NYC is 6.2 per 100,000, less than half the rate in Jacksonville.

Your accusations of "democratic socialism" and "dictator Biden" are textbook methods that have been used used by autocrats for years. Your use of the word is a method; the inaccuracy of the accusations are immaterial to the method.

The Merriam Webser's dictionary of fascism is below. The views expressed by your posting define whether you meet the definition, not your self-described denial. "Fascist" is an ugly word; "fascists" hide their fascism with broad proclamations of promoting freedom.

But it is what they say and do that defines a fascist.

    Here is that definition.

    Definition of fascism

1often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control// early instances of army fascism and brutality

Point of order, no government entity has declared parents to be domestic terrorists for being concerned about their children's education.

You need to stop listening to people who lie to you.

Total numbers mean nothing. The concern should be about the probability of being a murder victim. Moved to Chicago in 1989 and have always felt safe here. I don't know a single person who has been murdered or anyone who has committed murder. During my 29 years in Panama City, seven friends or acquaintances were murdered and two people I know committed murders.
