Do you have any evidence that any of these did not meet the pre-set conditions of forgiveness, or is this just mindless partisan crap? PPP was very specific that it was to pay employees. If any of these examples used it for anything else, and still had the loan forgiven, please let us know
One sided and disingenuous beside being off topic. Where are your D buddies? Of course, this program was passed by congress and signed by the president so you really are in socialist right field.
You're a thoughtful and intelligent poster here. As such, you must admit that the federal government and the universities have played a role in this mess. The increase in the cost of tuition over the years is not a GOP only issue. There is plenty of blame to pass around for sure, and the GOP is certainly a part of that, but not all of it.
Has anyone said how the borrowers will be able to afford the income tax burden of having $300B of debt forgiven? At a modest 15% marginal tax rate that’s $450m of additional income tax. Topic No. 431 Canceled Debt – Is It Taxable or Not? | Internal Revenue Service
I think it highlights selective outrage. I am not a fan of the student debt issue but I am not outraged about it. There is plenty of winners and losers picked by leaders all the time.
Agreed but just to point out Im not a conservative. I do lean towards that side fiscally but Im way more open to social policies to help certain people for small periods of time for the needy. I've actually moved more left on this issue as I get older. Im pretty much libertarian with a few exceptions.
I'm sure there is blame everywhere for defunding public education in general as both parties took their neoliberal economic turn, but the Reagan administration and indeed Reagan himself (who ended free tuition at Berkley while gov) were major players in driving the state of affairs that exists today. This was deliberate policy, they didn't want an educated work force, particularly in times of high unemployment. https://www.washingtonpost.com/post...udents-pay-too-much-for-college-blame-reagan/
You are the one that supports totalitarianism and Dictator Biden. You aren't in left field, you're out of the ballpark and the country. Venezuela is a great place for you.
I’m not a fan of this student loan forgiveness but the MAGA republicans are blasting out the putrid stench of hypocrisy saying nothing about billionaires, large corporations, and White Nationalist churches get bailouts. Oh and who paid for all of Trump’s bankruptcies?
I honestly don't think ETGator knows what 'socialism' is. Otherwise he'd be absolutely livid if he knew what social security or medicare was, or how his roads and city infrastructure are paid for.
Canceled student loan debt will likely be exempted from federal income taxes. State taxes may still apply, though.
That’s precious! The person who wants authoritarian rule, and doesn’t know the differences between communism, socialism, and authoritarianism, is accusing someone of supporting a totalitarian government. Sometimes I wonder if you’re a liberal catfishing as a far right MAGA just for entertainment purposes. I mean seriously, you have the MAGA stereotype down Pat.
He's confused about a lot of things, calling people totalitarians while being himself hostile to democracy.
And if we are going to specifically aid a group of people that are desperate, I would target the 20 million that are behind on their electric bills. Winter is coming. A ‘Tsunami of Shutoffs’: 20 Million US Homes Are Behind on Energy Bills You don't throw money at college debt that is self inflicted, you throw a bone to those who can't pay their electric bills.
I agree with leaders picking winners and losers but PPP is probably not the best example to use to debate the student loan issue. The government set the stage for the necessity for PPP. The beneficiaries of PPP didn’t voluntarily apply for PPP and then quit their jobs. I have a lot of problems with Student Loans in general. Suffice it to say it’s a “great idea that has gone too far”. As with all third party money it has caused excess demand that has been unscrupulously filled by all public and private colleges and universities. It is the only loan that I know of where the borrower does not have to provide proof of ability to repay. They need to cap it or put other limits on it. But that doesn’t do anything to address the current situation. The current solution from yesterday will only exacerbate irresponsible borrowing as people will now feel that their loans will also be forgiven in the future.
No, but it really does emphasize the point that he works for ALL Floridians, not just those who pledge allegiance to MAGA. And it reflects how much of a failure he is in that regard.
