I wouldn’t say they get bailed out all the time. 2008 aside, I can only think of Eastern Air lines and Chrysler.

I was too young to understand eastern and I didn’t agree with Chrysler. But for the most part, the USG just agreed to buy their vehicles from Chrysler for a few years to get them stable. Since those were cars that the government would have bought anyway, it did make the whole thing easier to take.

In this case it is, IMO very unfair to the many millions more people who responsibly borrowed, and responsibly paid their loans back. I could see creating a program for extreme situations where the loan will not be repaid anyway. That way, the people who can never pay it back due to conditions beyond their control like injury, get the burden lifted now rather than go through years of hassle

Seems he remembered both his campaign promises and that he's POTUS when he decided to forgive this student debt. Must be tough with Dark Brandon doing so much winning.

Ask MTG if she repaid her PPP loan or if she applied for loan forgiveness

Google PPP when you get a chance. Psst, it was a government bailout too.

Every person who has some loan forgiven should have to call everyone in their graduating high school class who either didn't go or could not afford college, and everyone who went to college but paid for it, and thank them for helping to pay off their loan.

Does that mean that Ron DeSantis owes me a call for helping to pay his salary?

Sure you are because bailing out people who make dumbass and irresponsible decisions is the way of the Democratic Party.

It’s simple… don’t borrow money you are likely not going to be able to pay back (ie attending an expensive private school and at the same time pursuing a worthless degree) and don’t ask others to pay back your debts (ie the large number of recent college graduates who earn enough to make loan payments but ignore doing so).

I know how you feel though and shame on me and others for actually thinking people should be held responsible for their actions.

True, but we were talking corporate bail outs not government bail outs. PPP was not a bailout for corporations. Additionally, PPP was only necessary because of government stupidity.

Well now that I’m 10k less in debt I’m going to do a lot more stupid things, and enjoy you getting mad about it. Probably just buy a bunch of coke and hookers, the rest I’ll just waste.

A long thread for two questions that can be easily and succinctly answered.

    What are they doing?

Turning private debt into tax payer liability.

    Why?
Politics. The timing is hardly coincidental.

Questions answered. Feel free to close the thread.

Republican stalwart, Marjorie Taylor Green, on Newsmax spewing how the gov't shouldn't have the power to forgive loans.

    Meanwhile, she had 180k forgiven.

Keep on going with the narrative though, Pubs.

    Mixed emotions on this one.

As someone who paid off his loans long ago, I get why many are upset, tho there is a great deal of hypocrisy around. A good friend who is also a trumpster is quite happy as both his daughters went to private universities and have a ton of student debt. Surprise, surprise, it's all about "me".

I'm all for forgiving debt incurred thru all those "for profit" diploma mills. However, those that incurred debt by going to expensive private universities, no sympathy here. Public universities are far more cost effective.

I think a better solution would have been to allow these debts to be disposed of thru bankruptcy like most other debts, but that's not happening. Also, the income thresholds seem rather high. If you're making 6 figures you can afford to repay your loans in my book.

At least maybe there will be some positive s/t benefit as borrowers put the money into the economy instead of making loan payments.
