There was a Heinlein book or short story that had legalized dueling. It had stringent rules. Haven’t read that book in maybe 40 years. I should find it and reread it.
You know that scene in the movie Alien where everyone is sitting around enjoying a meal. And then all of a sudden that one guy starts violently convulsing. And everyone doesn't know what is happening and they start freaking out and trying to stop him from convulsing. And then all of a sudden an alien baby pops out of his chest. Completely unexpected. A little terrifying. A little shocking. And very random. That's how thoughts work in my brain.
I believe it's a gray area in Texas. Similar to my OP where people can consent to fighting, or something like that. I do not know about Washington.
Look at some of the duels that Jim Bowie was in. He got pretty creative in how and with what he duelled.

Lol! So I see the tag and look to where I am being summoned. I begin the thread from post #1 and think …”hmmmm -why the heck am I being called to a thread on duels?”. I keep reading. Alas…. A duel to flip the camera!!!! It all makes sense. Channing - you have my full support, of course.
Haha, great. But still, you had an employee or customer that prompted this and you wanted to choke them but realized you couldn’t.
I actually agree with this under certain circumstances. First, it has to be a grievous personal matter (nothing professional or business allowed), and a judge has to determine that the matter is serious and personal. Both parties must consent to the duel and any other specific rules of the duel. The matter must be settled privately (not a spectator sport) with minimal witnesses and a neutral party from the state to observe that both sides adhere to whatever rules are set in place. I think under those rules there would actually be very few duels, but people would have a legal outlet to settle disputes that can’t be settled satisfactorily any of other way. Just my two cents.
