Agree. What's especially notable is that Molinaro ran for governor as the Republican nominee in 2018 and carried the district by a 10 percent margin over Andrew Cuomo. He has also been the County Executive of Duchess County, the largest county in the district, since 2011. The Republicans couldn't have selected a stronger candidate and yet he still lost.

Granted I'm probably what most would consider pro-choice, but I respectfully disagree. Honestly, I think allowing for "reasonable exceptions" makes very little sense and is morally inconsistent. Babies conceived from rape did nothing wrong. If you (the general you; not calling you out specifically) believe that all fetuses deserve complete protection from gummi bear status or earlier, then I just can't understand how you reconcile that those babies are okay to abort.

Basically, those fetuses did absolutely nothing wrong, but so many "pro-life" advocates accept that they should get less protection because of the crimes of their fathers. For what? Political expedience or palatability? Put up or shut up, imo. Defend "all innocent life" or don't.

A better way to put this is that either all women are 2nd class citizens with limited rights or none are.

Or even more on the nose, the metric for whether women should have body autonomy is based entirely on what a man did to them.

I'm pro life but more importantly I’m pro freedom. If they can take away a woman’s freedom to control her own reproductive choices then they can take away other freedoms as well.

Are you ok with men being able to opt out of supporting any baby born? Because men have never had the right to not have a baby… only women. Or do women want both sides. They( women) get to decide to have the baby or not.. men don’t … and women can force the man to take fiscal responsibility if the baby. Again.. no choice for the man. Who is the second class citizen with no choice?

The district is almost split 50/50 and the Dem was recently down in polls by as much 8 points, so yeah it was a bit of a shocker.

This is a red herring argument as the birthing of a child is uniquely female. The man makes his choice in the few seconds before he ejaculates. Leave it in or pull it out.

Writing a check for 18 years isn’t exactly analogous to putting your body through the birthing process and potentially raising a child on your own for the next 18 years of your life.

Here is some new polling data specific to PA about new registrants:

Since the Dobbs ruling, 56% of new registrants are women. Stats on those women:

    62% D to 15% R
54% under the age of 25

    The male stats?

    43% D to 28% R
41% under the age of 25

Sounds more to me like unexpected D turnout.

Just confirms what we all knew: New Yorkers are no where near as intelligent as they think they are and pretend to be.

That could be. OR it could be that women in red/purple areas who are most likely to be effected by the state rules restricting/eliminating abortion access. I can certainly see young women in red states who are suddenly realizing that they do have something to lose by staying on the sidelines during elections.

I've no data of voter registrations to support this premise, but the young are notoriously very low participants in elections. If the PUBs have given them a reason to get involved it could be a game changer.

Several polls had Molinaro leading Ryan. I tend to agree with @GatorNorth, the wildcard was unexpected Democratic turnout.

I guess that may be true since Trump carried that district 2016.

As much as the news was relatively good last night nationwide, I feel like the bad guys have again out organized at a lower level before Dems realized what was happening, much like t with State houses in 2010.

The Miami, Jacksonville and Sarasota school boards are now all majority MAGA conspiracy theorists book banners.

Those poor children. And we will have to deal with more of them when they become adults, being either indoctrinated or undereducated. And long suffering teachers will suffer even longer

A bit over the top, and self righteous. Very, very few people want abortion on demand at any point prior to delivery. The overwhelming majority of Americans do want the mother to be able to make a decision during the first trimester or prior to viability. Those who want to ban them period are, indeed, pandering/narrow minded nut jobs. Oh, it’s okay in the case of rape or incest? Well, I guess life isn’t sanctified after all, in which case the only issue is when it becomes such. So maybe you’ll say abortion in cases of rape or incest only during the first trimester. Well, why not in other cases?

One can be a devout Christian and still support abortions prior to a certain point. Why must Christians steadfastly insist otherwise? The herd instinct methinks.

This poll was posted in another thread (thx oragator1). With a finding that threats to democracy was a primary concern for many. Was this ever a top concern in a poll before? For many this equates to trump style candidates who refuse to accept an election outcome if they lose. Started with the Big Lie. Many voters are concerned these candidates are a threat to our democracy.
