Next we will hear that the guy is biased because some distant relative voted for Jimmy Carter half a century ago.

    NYC
NYT has some conservative columnists and opinion pieces, is this not the equivalent for Fox, or is this unprecedented?

This is bad for the country. Therefore bad for everyone. I could be wrong. But these people have cried wolf enough about Trump. Hard to think they finally had a legitimate reason for this after all of the fake allegations the past 5-6 years…

There were no fake allegations. He just had his job and Bill Barr to protect him from consequences.

And your always wrong on this site btw, so congrats on batting a thousand.

As I have said…I will eat my crow when it is proven Trump maliciously broke the law. I know some of you want it to be so bad. Not sure why so much hate. But…

The documents are stolen property as they don't belong to him.

I wasn't aware that maliciousness was required to be guilty of theft.

So you don't believe that Trump's lawyers scanned those documents into digital files? Then why did you say that earlier?

No. They haven’t cried wolf about Trump. Trump should have been prosecuted for obstruction of justice when Mueller found sufficient evidence for the elements of three obstruction charges. The DC Circuit’s order on releasing the Un-redacted Barr memo on the prosecution decision reports that Barr’s DOJ never made a decision to not prosecute him. Also, the Russia investigation died when Roger Stone announced the Friday before he was supposed to go to jail the next Tuesday that he as heading to jail because he kept his mouth shut about Trump; Trump commuted his sentence that night. Manafort also kept his mouth shut, too. And hear in mind the technical issues: conspiracy to obtain stolen electronic data is not covered by the federal theft statute. He rewarded the criminals he surrounded himself with— Stone, Manafort, Bannon etc. with pardons. That is how he sold his presidency. Trump should have been convicted in the Senate for threatening to withhold aid to Ukraine In exchange for an announcement that Ukraine was investigating the Bidens. Trump sold out US foreign policy for campaign aid and extorted Ukraine. He should have been convicted in his second trial too. And this doesn’t even get into how he and his family used the presidency for their business advantage.

I do not have a horse in this race (except for the sanctity of what this country has been and what it appears to be becoming), but I just don't want a fishing expedition and then find the gram of pot and justify the traffic stop based on it. We shall see whether he is overly stupid or we just want to expedite his retirement from our collective psyches.

It all feels too "Battle Royale" to be merely a bad actor.

No you won’t. You will never believe Trump did anything wrong. And what a low bar for a political figure. Really bad judgment and intentional dishonesty aren’t enough for you. Oh, and don’t tell me that I am relying on the media. I read the Senate Select Committee one intelligence Report, the Mueller Report, and the returns on the warrants here. And watched the January 6 hearings for myself. And heard the tape of his call with Raffensberger. It takes a weak minded person to judge someone’s ethics and honesty based on his or her politics.

How about a little more specificity and if you're referring to Hillary Clinton's private email server the her situation and that of Trump are in no way analogous.

Trump had boxes and boxes of classified materials. Hillary had a potential 113 emails out of 30,000+, with only 3 being marked classified. Hillary cooperated with the FBI, and the DOJ ultimately let her go because they found no intent. We don't know Trump's intent, but can't say he cooperated when he lied on an affidavit about having classified materials, and ignored the June subpoena.

But other than that, totally the same!

That's all well and good but what about this?

Biden White House facilitated DOJ's criminal probe against Trump, scuttled privilege claims: memos

"On April 11, 2022, the White House Counsel's Office — affirming a request from the Department of Justice supported by an FBI letterhead memorandum — formally transmitted a request that NARA provide the FBI access to the 15 boxes for its review within seven days, with the possibility that the FBI might request copies of specific documents following its review of the boxes," Wall wrote Trump defense attorney Evan Corcoran.

That letter revealed Biden empowered the National Archives and Records Administration to waive any claims to executive privilege that Trump might assert to block DOJ from gaining access to the documents.

"The Counsel to the President has informed me that, in light of the particular circumstances presented here, President Biden defers to my determination, in consultation with the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel, regarding whether or not I should uphold the former President's purported 'protective assertion of executive privilege,'" Wall wrote. "... I have therefore decided not to honor the former President's 'protective' claim of privilege."

So now we're gonna start waiving previous presidents' executive privilege? This is exactly the kind of thing that screams witch hunt.

You really think Trump would be let go of any crime because of a lack of intent?

What is bad for the country is that now the gloves are off. This very case could have easily been made against Hillary. One reason that it wasn’t was because it could/would be seen as pursuing an ex-president. And that was over documents that were created after Clinton left office.

As I understand this fiasco, there had been open dialog/debate on the documents in question. Some of the documents had already been returned. This is not uncommon for ex-presidents to leave the White House with classified documents. Over the course of the next couple of years the ex-presidents team and the National Archives work through that mountain of papers and get everything classified correctly and to the right place. It has been reported that this process was ongoing here yet somehow the FBI had to get involved. This is not a good look.

I do not believe that the Clinton’s were intending to steal classified documents for any nefarious reason. I think they got mixed in with the nefarious things going on with the Clinton foundation. Likewise here, I do not think that Trump had nefarious plans with the documents in question here.

Now the gloves are off. This raid had better produce more than just the documents that were in debate between Trump and the Archives. If it doesn’t, it will be standard fare to investigate and harass the opposition party, just like turd world countries.

Congratulations folks, we have continually elected politicians from both parties that have brought us to this point. It is now completely party over country.
