NBC News poll: 57% of voters say investigations into Trump should continue Almost unfathomable that it’s come to this. But here we are.
I don't know how we fix things when so many people refuse to accept elections simply because the other side won. Democracy's foundation lies in free and fair elections and the peaceful transition of power.
Exactly. What a crap poll! Either/or? I don’t answer any poll like that because it is obviously a sham. It’s only going to pick up the hard base from each side of an issue.
Wait. I thought abortion was going to be the turning point?! I assume that many extremists on both sides view the other as a threat to the democracy so not sure how to read this.
I'm currently a single issue voter. If the GOP candidate believes the big lie or is opposed to investigating 1/6, I'm voting for whoever has the best chance of beating them.
You seem like a reasonable man Phil. Please consider at least a couple of other issues in your choices. Single issues are a politician’s dream come true. It is how we have gotten to where we are. If you wouldn’t buy a car, or choose a school, or even buy car insurance based on a single factor, then you shouldn’t do it when it comes to voting choices.
Election officials refusing to certify correct election results they don't like. Almost 40% of the country believing wild, baseless conspiracy theories about the last presidential election. The SCOTUS possibly ruling this fall that state legislators can just pick any president they want and ignore the votes of their citizens. Stuff like that.
look at the graph. I’d think those things fall under “coronavirus.” I’m pretty sure Q is the last person still melting down about covid.
But to Tilly’s point - both democrats and republicans think the other side is a threat to democracy. Republicans because they think (wrongfully) that the election was rigged and democrats with a legitimate laundry list of the ways Trump and his cronies have tried to subvert our democracy. Point being, no wonder it’s the number one reason.
For decades I mocked those who said their pet issue was too important and stayed stuck in the duopoly (2000 was the last year I voted straight ticket R, we took power and immediately blew up the deficit, that isnt how this is supposed to work). Now I've found a pet issue for me that is important enough that I'm willing to vote for a major party candidate I don't agree with. All the Republicans need to do to win my vote is to turn their backs on Trump. I want to vote for conservatives. I will not vote for candidates who are undermining democracy.
This my point. The left acts like only their pov looks at threats to our process, while many view abortions (lack of rights for the unborn) and suing bakers, and locking down mom and pop businesses as threats as well. There is more on the ballot than 1/6 to many people. That number doesnt only include 1/6. It also includes conservatives too, so I just dont see what can be grasped by those numbers.
