If you’ll indulge me one more historical movie for my list, I just finished watching on Amazon prime The King’s Choice. It’s a Norwegian film with subtitles from 2016 about the choices facing Norway’s monarch as the Germans were invading his country in WWII. I found the film moving and relevant for today’s world affairs.

Yea, huge buzz in the film trades. Sounds like it will be a bit challenging to keep up with. Movies like that are often the best. Cool bit of trivia, the kid that played Short Round in the Temple of Doom is the male lead..

Here are a few you might like since subtitled war dramas seem to be your bag:

Blizzard of Souls (aka The Rifleman) (Latvian) WWI
The Shadow in My Eye (aka The Bombardment) (Danish) WWII
    The War Below (UK) WWI

I've been wondering if it's cool to post non-political topics here to get thoughts. Seems like that's okay?

There are forums for general topics, but if its stuff like this oriented towards discussion within the TH community, I dont think anyone has a problem with it.

Looking ahead, I'm eager to see Nope, Lightyear, Bullet Train, Fantastic Beasts; Secrets of Dumbledore (Catherine Waterston is so 'effing hot), maybe even Ambulance from Michael Bay. Reading that he's toned things down a bit. He's a technically brilliant director with a bad case of adult ADHD.

Gonna preview Turning Red to see if it's appropriate to see with our seven year-old grand niece when we visit New York in June. Will return in December to take her and her soon-to-be five year-old sister to see the Sesame Street movie, with Anne Hathaway, Bo Burnham and Chance the Rapper. Chance is an amazing entertainer. Wouldn't be surprised if he became the next Will Smith.

Not sure what's next for the last Will Smith but I hope he finds his way back. He's a terrific actor and by most accounts, a great guy. Recently read Barry Sonnenfeld's memoir, Barry Sonnenfeld, Call your Mother. His anecdotes about working and hanging out with Will paint a picture of a humble, gracious and generous human being. You shoot five films with somebody, you're going to see them at their worst.

Saw Everything Everywhere all at Once a few months ago. It lives up to it's billing.

Just saw Prey on Hulu. Already my favorite film in the franchise. Been watching a lot of current films and others from recent years. Palm Springs with Andy Samburg was a hoot.
Plus One with Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine from PEN15 was a fun, sexy/raunchy romcom.

Not new but highly recommended… My wife, son, daughter and daughter's boyfriend and I went into town to see the annual screening of 2001; a Space Odyssey in 70mm at the Music Box Theater in Chicago. Wish I could have gotten my wife to drive so I could take a gummy before I got to the theater.

Saw Good Luck to You Leo Grande the day it came out on Hulu. That would be up for multiple oscars if it had a theatrical release. (The academy is no longer allowing streaming features in competition.) Emma Thompson would win best female lead for the best performance in her career.

Saw a strange little film from the UK titled Nina Forever last night. It's about a guy who's girlfriend died in a car accident but reappears in his bed whenever he's having sex with his new girlfriend. It's really creepy because the dead girlfriend appears just as she was when she died and she bleeds all over his sheets. Things get stranger when the new girlfriend and dead girlfriend become attracted to each other. Fair warning; It got a 94% rating on rottentomatoes.com and a 53% audience rating.

Is Severance a movie, or TV series?

TV series, but the influence of Charlie Kaufman's 90s-00s movies was obvious.

Good feedback. I just looked up the RT score for Nina Forever. Its interesting when the two RT scores have such a wide divergence like that. Maybe the movie wasn’t what the target audience expected?

Good point, this was originally a movie thread. (Severance is up for 14 Emmy’s.)

I'll look for it. Do you know how many seasons there were (sorry, I'm lazy)?

One. Comic Con San Diego had an big portion of a building set up like the show and a immersive Severance experience due to its popularity. On RT Severance received a 97 and 93 rating. However, it has a unusual theme and not everyone will dig it. And I’m apprehensive when someone tells me you have to watch a few episodes to really get into it. but you have to watch a few episodes. Final kicker, Ben Stiller directed it.

oh, I was real sick for the last 2 weeks. Bright side. I binged detectorists on Prime. Delightful. It's like climbing under an old afghan by a cracklin' fire.

On the other end of the spectrum is Wayne which I watched for the 3rd time. it's violence + romance & it is great. also on Prime.

just finished Black Bird on apple +. very well done. disturbing

I just watched A Woman Under the Influence with Peter Falk and Gina Rowlands, a great movie.
Black phone with Ethan Hawke was pretty good too

5.6 on IMDB. I’m skeptical of anything under 6.0.
