I’m not an expert on the 3-4 defense but if you only have 3 on the line I would think you would have your big boy in the middle and then 2 larger strong side defensive ends on both sides. One or more of your linebackers would be more of your weak side defensive end.
That's pretty much what the Gators have now and what was employed last year. Some years the edge rusher will look like a DE and other years the starter will be a super athletic 245 pounder. It would be a good thing to have a couple of players who are interchangeable between SSDE and edge like Jonathan Greener a couple of years back.. I suspect Spencer's recruiting strategy is to be three-deep along the DL with no drop-off from the starters to the twos and the threes just younger versions of the other six. Right now the class looks heavy at SSDE but those linemen will continue to bulk up and at least two of them will grow into three-technique tackles. Hoping we add one lineman who can project at NT. Norman looks like the only one right now.
North Gwinnett put McDonald at RB and ran him two plays in a row (11 yards). This wasn’t a short yardage situation. They lined him up in the backfield and ran him off tackle.
First being ? I am amazed and happy our staff has been able to go into alerbammer and georgia and compete for players we believe the home state schools would relish, even Dijon! I was hard on the staff when we were in the 40s. If they close on DL and DB like we hope and land at least one strong LB and one strong OT, good cycle!
I like when he said, “I needed five sacks and I got them”. wouldn’t it be great if all of our players set game goals, shot high, and got them, or almost got them all.
Hooe he isn’t after stats and did the rest off his job as well. That’s a lot of getting to tge qb for a big boy.
