It’s really impossible to know exactly without knowing the specific nature of each documents (which we might never know due to the nature of them being classified.!). Was he going to use nuclear documents as blackmail to leverage DOJ to drop a case? Something like that seems highly doubtful, even for Trump. The only thing I’m sure of is he thought they all had value to Trump. Probably different documents had different purposes (blackmail, leverage, showing off, $$$).
Following a request from the National Archives, in January of 2022 Trump provided 15 boxes of documents to the Archives. He claimed that those were all of the documents that he took from the White House and had no others in his possession. The recent search was triggered by information provided by a confidential informant or in Trump's parlance "a rat". If he did in fact turn over all the documents in January the August search of Mar-a-Lago would have never occurred. From last February. 15 boxes: Inside the long, strange trip of Trump’s classified records
Ooohh..all red, and bold. Wow, must be truth. Who sponsors the westerm journal? Do you care? It is worst than breitbart if thats possible
Jane and Marty Raskin represented Trump in the Mueller probe. Great South Florida lawyers with a lot of federal criminal experience. Didn’t go public and give pressers and did the real legal work. I find it notable that they are not involved in this. Trump has a reputation for not paying his bills (as COHEN indicated in the link) and he is a terrible client who doesn’t listen I advice and would compromise his lawyers. And, as an ex president, things don’t stick to him and fall on others.
People who are informed by Breitbart, the Western Journal, Gatewat Pundit etc live in an alternative world. That is a real world for them. It is a world where it is persecution to seize top secret compartmentalized documents from Donald Trump after Trump’s team lied about having them. Because Trump secretly declassified them under a non-existent standing order in his head. All of that is their truth.
Got it. Because the truth hurts you have decided to use a juvenile phrase to criticize a media outlet that has won multiple Pulitzer prizes and receives multiple nominations virtually every year. The strategy of Trump and the right-wing media is rather obvious. Because their preferred solution of actually shutting down the free press is impossible they have unfortunately and somewhat effectively resorted to the alternative of trying to delegitimize it. This meme says it all.
The press hasn't been free and independent for the last 20 years, probably started around Bush and his attack on Iraq, maybe since Bush beat Gore in 2020. The press took sides, not even just a bias as in the past, and has gotten worse year after year. In this case, both Jefferson and Trump are right.
Anyone else noticing a significant increase of Pub desperation of late? One little search warrant and it's all batTrump crazy with them. LOL
Trumpism is the religion of people who tuned out of education around 4th grade and carried that maturity level into adulthood. They are stuck in a state of perpetual adolescence.
It is impossible to know, but Cohen was a part of Trump's inner circle for a long time. Cohen has more insight into Trump's way of thinking more than most. We know Trump didn't cooperate. Trump's lawyer lied on the affidavit when it stated all classified materials were returned, and Trump ignored the subpoena to return said classified documents. Why Trump did this goes a long way towards intent. It's possible this was just incompetent oversight by Trump, but evidence says otherwise. If it was just oversight, why ignore the subpoena? Also, whoever the mole is knew what existed and where it was kept. If the mole knew, highly likely that Trump knew too. So if Trump was purposely keeping this material at MAR, there has to be a reason. It could be that Trump though the material truly belonged to him? But then Trump either got poor advice or didn't listen to his lawyers, and ignorance of the law is no excuse. And just thinking he wasn't breaking any laws isn't a good reason to allow Trump to improperly store highly classified materials. Certainly, just having these materials stored in a pool closet at MAR was a potential national security risk, which is why MAR was under FBI surveillance.
You got half of it right. The mainstream media gets the facts right the overwhelmingly majority of the time and when they do screw up they publish retractions shortly thereafter. As far as the Bush's attack on Iraq is concerned the biggest mistake by the media was accepting the Bush Administration's narrative on its face and even then there were articles skeptical of Bush's "Saddam has WMD" narrative. This meme is also useful for purposes of comparison.
smart of them to stay out of the press and just do their work. Concern about having their work politicized unnecessarily was a common concern I heard from folks who were targeted for positions in the administration and DOJ
New report states the FBI was concerned over their surveillance of MAR. No specifics on what the FBI saw or why they were concerned. Still haven't heard back from @ETGator1 regarding the question, even if Trump had no intent on using the information, is it OK for him to store top secret information at Mar a Lago? The fact the FBI was concerned either means they were worried about Trump's intent, or the information accidently falling into the wrong hands. Either way, a good reason for Trump not to have these docs stored at his home that also doubles as a club.
