These healthcare workers deserved better. Some probably ended up in better situations but others were likely harmed far worse than the damages awarded. Look forward to more people recovering damages from the idiotic policies put in place but a few. All those running for Congress should have on their platform that they will make right all of the service men and women that were fired over covid mandates get their jobs back with back pay and more... Health care workers fired over vaccine mandate awarded $10 million in settlement (msn.com)
Case of religious exemptions and the policy of this hospital system. Hospital administrators and lawyers botched this one. Hopefully this is the exception and not the norm. Seems simple… file for a legitimate religious exemption and have the hospital review.
There are probably very few people who qualify as holding a "sincere religious belief" against vaccinations. I know there are some religions that refuse all medical treatment, so hopefully the court got this right, and verified that these healthcare workers refuse all medical treatment and didn't give their kids any vaccinations ... and this isn't a case of Antivaxers lying to the court. But becoming a healthcare worker sure seems like an odd choice of jobs for people who think healthcare goes against god.
Forcing these vaccines on people was wrong from day 1 knowing we did not have the data to support it. And considering the data ended up showing it was the wrong policy. I hope every single person fired over the attempted coercion is awarded damages. They should all be apologized to. Shoot. Many of these workers are ones that got covid before the vaccine was available and had superior protection. Then omicron came and did not care. Yet they still had the superior protection. These corporate hospital systems should be held accountable. Like the military and any other organizations trying to force people to take a drug they did not need or want. An apology will go a long way to regaining trust. And it is owed.
The most common religious exemption I heard of was that the vaccine research included use of aborted fetal tissue or cells. Meanwhile, many filing that exemption take Tylenol on a regular basis...
One of my closest friends who had to file for a religious exemption and received it. As did just everybody he knew at his employer that asked (L3 Harris). Citing the Bible and using prayer and the way he wish to navigate his healthcare. No push back from LG3 for him. Knew a couple who had to submit a second time but got the exemption. There was and is no reason to coerce people to take these drugs. As much as people wanted to argue there was a reason…they owe everyone who was coerced and did not want the drug along with those who lost their jobs an apology.
My buddy used prayer and the reality they did not know it was safe for every situation. Now that we have the data and we know the risk gradient. Coercing and forcing young people to take these drugs was wrong. If people want to take them…their choice. But to mandate them was flat wrong!
“Not knowing if it’s safe for every situation” — and all of your second paragraph — has nothing to do with sincere religious beliefs … so that leaves “prayer” … You are saying your buddy said he was praying he would not catch Covid and spread it other people??? And that worked??? That just makes me sad. Prayer doesn’t stop infectious diseases and doesn't prove a sincere religious belief against vaccines.
The flying spaghetti monster justification. That's how they do it out in the sticks where the pain of thinking can be soothed with that sweet, sweet horse paste balm.
Seems like it worked in that situation for your friend to get an exemption. I hope he or she is healthy and safe. However, you seem to expanded your argument to all vaccinations, not just those that may have been a legitimate religious exemption. Is your complaint that a private employer cannot require it’s employees to follow a company policy? Are you suggesting government should stop that private employer and force the private employer to do something different? Is that similar or different than Burwell v Hobby Lobby?
You guys can hate on him all you want but he’s right. No one should be forced to take a vaccine if they choose not to. The vaccines are totally effective, fauci himself said so. Bottom line is if you have gotten yours, what do you care, or why should employers/govt care if someone didn’t? As long as you’re vaccinated it shouldn’t matter. I remember people complaining that they couldn’t get theirs yet because they were under 40 and someone else was before them or some kind of sh.t. Now they’re complaining because someone else didn’t get theirs. Lol
My buddy and many others received religious exemptions. And considering we now see the data shows that we should have never coerced young people to take these drugs. These companies that denied exemptions need and should be held accountable if they denied religious exemptions.
No. If a private employer does not infringe on another’s Constitutional Rights they should be able to hold the policies they wish. End of the day…I do not think there is an employer out there that has not allowed for a religious exemption. Even the government (though in some circumstances it seems the government has the strictest test for it). Considering how many received exemptions and the data showing they should have…I hope a lot of people get paid from an idiotic policy/mandate.
It seems like almost anything could be opposed on this basis. For example, if someone prays that they won't get in a wreck, could they get out of a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt?
