Keep in mind this is in a profession where 50% of new teachers don't make it past year 5.

More than half of teachers are looking for the exits, a poll says

Teachers are picking up slack for absent colleagues. They're covering for unfilled positions. And 55% of them say they will leave teaching sooner than they had originally planned, according to a poll of its members by the nation's largest teachers union.

The National Education Association poll, conducted in January, helps quantify the stress being placed on educators right now. It found that the number who say they'll leave the profession sooner has risen significantly since August. Among the NEA poll's other findings:

    • 90% of its members say that feeling burned out is a serious problem.
    • 86% say they have seen more educators leaving the profession or retiring early since the start of the pandemic.
    • 80% report that unfilled job openings have led to more work obligations for those left.
"Last summer, I started traveling across the country," says Becky Pringle, president of the NEA, which has nearly 3 million members, talking about the impetus for the survey. "Without exception, every stop I made, from Kentucky to Oakland, I heard those similar stories of educators who were exhausted, overwhelmed, feeling unloved, disrespected."

So we have this from your article you posted:

“Of course, saying that you're thinking about leaving, or reporting the perception that others are leaving, is not the same as actually putting in your notice.”

And? The poll reflects active teachers who want to quit, not teachers that have already quit. Wanting to quit and having the resources to quit and find a new career are two different things, and we all know that.

My original claim was that more than half of teachers are thinking of quitting. The article I posted says that more than half of teachers are thinking of quitting.

Come on dude, I want to quit my job too, but I’m not. I have responsibilities just like everyone else does. Such a lazy take.

You could do that with pretty much any profession and have the same results. Do you want me to keep going? Teachers should for sure be paid more but let’s not act like they are so different from other professions.

And? Seems like you simply don’t understand the purpose of the poll. Its a gauge of how many teachers are unhappy and are considering a career change.

Teaching is no different than any other profession. People are unhappy in pretty much every profession. So I understand the poll perfectly, it lines up with pretty much most other people. Shocking…

How many people go college for 4 years to get a degree that can basically land you one job -- teacher -- then decide they want a career change? I think the big issue is pay. If you are an engineer or computer guru making $100K+, you don't have a lot of options at a equal pay level if you hate your job, so you stick it out. Teachers probably make less than a lot of people who don't have degrees, so their options are open if they want a career change ... which is probably why (according to above) half of all new teachers do quit. My wife has a teaching degree and didn't last 3 years. Now she basically runs the business side of my company ...

Lol, keep moving the goalposts. Teaching isn’t differ than any other profession in that some people stick it out, some don’t. Most aren’t happy.

Do you know what "move the goalpost" means? If you really believe that about other professions, let's see a survey of other professions that require specific degrees and see if half of those professionals hate their jobs so much they are looking for a career change. Time to put or shut up, because it seems like you are just making stuff up.

Swing and a miss. According to this, 89% of workers with 4 year degrees are either "Very Satisfied" or "Moderately Satisfied" with their jobs. Teachers are a big time outlier. Seems like you are one of those people who just makes up "facts" that fit their narrative.

Oh, I see, but none of those links you posted say they are completely leaving their industry, just considering leaving their position or finding a new employer ...
another swing and miss. That's strike two for you...

LoL. What a joke. I would say you’re better than that but we all know you’re not. Nurses and doctors are leaving their industry. You lose, again. It must get old, right? Tough one. Maybe next time sport.

Except your link doesn't say that ... did you even read it? It wasn't "doctors and nurses", it was "hospital support staff". I bet a lot them don't have 4 year degrees. You should read your own link so you come off as lazy and wrong all the time. Another swing as miss. That's three, have a seat slugger.

BTW ... the number of Doctors (since you included them) who are Satisfied, Very Satisfied, or Extremely Satisfied with their jobs is 89%... man, you sure say some dumb stuff ...

Yes. It never happened. This is why the school district didn’t defend itself by saying it never happened, but instead concocted an entire story about the mythical “behavioral analyst”.
