Do you assess that the attack on the air base Tuesday reflects active involvement by NATO special forces?

No, I have no reason to believe that. But if we’re talking about what’s possible, then I suppose it’s possible we, or another space power, might have given them a six-digit grid coordinate and said, “If you hit this spot on the earth in the next few minutes with some long-range munitions, then you might get some high-yield results.”

I think you’re probably correct. Certainly, our government is bending over forwards [sic] to not antagonize Russia while it rapes Ukraine. But allies have a way of dragging you in whether you want to or not. Canada and some other countries are getting more directly involved.

What ever was used to attack the air base, it was precision.

The way I see it Germany is trying their best to avoid that situation or make certain the blame is on the US if it happens. Canada is now playing the role or most likely the bidding of the US and the UK. I am reluctant to throw Australia into the mix as they have their own issues to worry about with regard to China.

I agree that Australia (and Canada) should be more concerned with China than Russia. We have to be concerned with both.

I don't believe they are on the ground in Ukraine. If they are, it's covert. The only known US presence is the CIA. Pretty sure the 82nd Airborne is still right across the border in Poland. A lot of them.

It’s the 101st Air Assault now, and it’s not even the whole division. It would take a minimum of two full armored divisions to make Russia take notice. Part of a light infantry division is just for informational purposes.

Germany is playing a significant role but from a from a safe distance. If Article 5 is triggered, Germany will be one of the first countries to jump in.

We’ve seen the effectiveness of drones. This could swing the momentum of war back to Russia. These can fly out of range for stingers.

From what I've seen, Russia will just end up crashing all their drones after a bunch of courageous Ukrainians shoot them down with Nerf guns.

Possibly. Or they might start learning as they always have before.

Love seeing this. I suspect there are quite a few people in Crimea who want to see Russia kicked out of Crimea. The fact that Russia is having to buy drones from Iran and is even reaching out to North Korea would seem to indicate concern that their munitions are running low.

Moscow blames saboteurs for explosions that rock ammo dump in Russian-annexed Crimea

LONDON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Russia on Tuesday blamed saboteurs for orchestrating a series of explosions at an ammunition depot in Russian-annexed Crimea, a rare admission that armed groups loyal to Ukraine are damaging military logistics and supply lines on territory it controls.

The incident follows a series of explosions last week at a Russian-operated air base in Crimea which Ukrainian officials hinted were part of some kind of special operation but which Moscow said at the time was an accident.

The nuclear deal with Iran should be off the table until Iran agrees to not arm Russia. At a minimum, this deal should result in the west sanctioning chip sales to Iran

Or maybe Putin is sending a not-too-subtle message to the West to back off or he will provide sophisticated weaponry to some of the most dangerous and irresponsible countries in the world.

what sophisticated weaponry? They didn’t seem to have much to trouble Ukraine, and what little they may have had has already been used up. And has been for a while.

Putin has recently been quoted (although I’m not going to spend the time to find the articles) that he prepared to start sharing weaponry and technology with myriad rogue nations, whom he said must align together presumably as an alliance.

Our response to that should be a shrug. Once you’ve invaded your neighbor, murdered thousands, made millions homeless, and threatened the world with an extinction-level nuclear attack, it is just a little hard to stoke more outrage by selling weapons to rogue nations openly when you’ve already been doing it for years surreptitiously.
