I don't think your conclusions drawn from that article are correct.

Take for instance, the title:

Yes, really. I happen to lift free weights 3x a week and while politics isn't something I discuss in real life, as I'm not a psychopath who wants everyone to hate me, with very rare exception they are conservative people when it's brought up.

It makes sense. Weightlifting and strength training require hard work solo. You can't ask your neighbor to do it for you. People who are accustomed to this tend to appreciate things they earn. Also being more attractive than average will likely make your day to day interactions better, get you higher salaries, etc... which means you don't envy your rich neighbors things but rather aim to earn them yourself, another conservative value.

We're also happier, at least according to the university of Florida whom I'm inclined to trust.

Sorry, I've updated with more studies showing personal agency and similar traits also are conservative values that increase happiness. Looking good is mostly to do with diet and exercise as well, personal choices and work. Not many men or women who eat well and exercise religiously look bad.

As a personal anecdote, I got real fat after drinking too much in a depressing marriage. Lost about 80 pounds after the divorce 7 years ago. Since getting back to my normal weight and activities like lifting and cycling I've noticed life is easy again. People are more friendly. I get more things I want. It's just better, almost entirely due to my own efforts.
