Copying certain types of classified documents is a violation of the Espionage Act.

That may be the dumbest defense I have ever heard. It is one thing for a president to bring documents to the residence in the White House. So, the documents are declassified for purposes of being moved from one part of the White House to another. It is wholly different to take them to a resort outside of the White House and to keep them there after the end of the presidency and after demand to return them. And that executive order, if it exists at all, does not seek to declassify the documents for all purposes; just for the president to look at them in the White House. That doesn’t extend to keeping them after his presidency. And, they are not declassified for public consumption. So, the documents remain national defense secrets as defined in the Espionage Act, even if declassified so the president can see them outside of the Oval Office.

Lol... yeah, I implied after the declassification of said papers. If you just copy papers then that might be bad for anyone other than the POTUS according to several facts/article and court cases that I have posted.

Question for MAGA. So we're no longer going with the FBI Planted Evidence argument. The current argument is that the documents had been declassified?

This is serious shit. Everyone on both sides should be troubled by what has likely happened and what will likely transpire in the near future. The funny memes and jokes on both sides are inappropriate given the ominous nature of this investigation. A former US president is likely to have violated the Espionage Act of 1917 and possibly endangered our national security. Nobody should be celebrating that or excusing Trump's actions.

The real victim of the FBI search and seizure at Mar-a-Lago isn't Donald Trump at least not politically. The real loser may very well be Ron DeSantis. Not only are members of the Cult of the Donald rallying around Trump so are Republican officeholders many of whom previously suggested that Trump's time had come and gone and that was time to look to the future. While it's obviously way too early to make an accurate prediction my guess is that in polls for the party's 2024 nomination Republican voters will express a preference for Trump by a significantly larger margin than polls released over the last several weeks which indicated that Trump's margin over DeSantis was starting to narrow. In other words once again playing the victim may work for the Donald.

Although they may be in somewhat bad taste what inspires the memes and jokes is the absurdity of the former president's statements and the defense from his conned supporters who apparently wish to deny reality and remain willfully ignorant.

Exactly. And for all the bitching and moaning about the terrible treatment Trump's been forced to endure at the hands of those nasty FBI brutes, it's should be pointed out that anyone else who was found with the classified papers would be answering some very hard questions about now, while awaiting incarceration in a federal prison.

People who work with classified information can be fired and/or prosecuted for making the wrong statement to the wrong person, however innocent or inadvertent. Trump's done much worse, and is being treated with kid gloves.

Let's not forget what happened to Sandy Berger, Clinton's National Security Adviser, and what Trump did was far more serious.

Though I’m no expert, I did have a top secret clearance in the military and know how very strict the rules were. I think the point is no one may have top secret, or higher, classified documents, whether original or copies, in one’s possession outside of certain government areas. Further, they may only be viewed in certain secure areas, the highest classification only in hardened rooms by only a handful of people. This is essential for our national security. If a Chinese or Russian spy could get ahold of some of these documents, lives could be lost and our national security gravely damaged. It’s a very serious matter.

This is what the uproar has been about. I have no idea why Trump had them at Mar-a-Lago and am anxious to know what his intent was.

I notice you often end your posts with LMAO. That strikes me as juvenile. It also explains your weird spelling and syntax.

imagine if it was Obama who FBI found with classified documents on nuclear weapons and Obama had a friendly relationship with Putin\Russia. MAGA would literally talk about the death penalty. But with Trump, MAGA is bending over backwards defending him. Dear Leader before everything else.

It's interesting that some of the items taken by the FBI were multiple binders of photos. You have to wonder who the people are in the photos. I'm sure that one of them is Lindsay Graham.

To be fair, they talk about the death penalty for just about everyone left of, say, Joseph McCarthy.

    It just keeps getting better:

Trump Lawyer Told Justice Dept. That Classified Material Had Been Returned

“The lawyer signed a statement in June that all documents marked as classified and held in boxes in storage at Mar-a-Lago had been given back. The search at the former president’s home on Monday turned up more.”

Funny how they never claimed declassification until after the raid. How convenient.

Like everyone who works for him, I'm sure this lawyer simply did what Trump told him or her to do. Even though there was no longer any possibility of a pardon. To play on Gene Kelly's motto "Dignity, always dignity" (in "Singin' in the Rain"), with a Trump employee it's "Loyalty, always loyalty."
