I STILL pretty much exclusively watch CNN for news events, but their primetime lineup is often a bash the conservatives fest. I have always thought Anderson Cooper does a decent job. Though hos slant creeps in. Don Lemon however was recently quoted as saying that any shift by Licht the new president that doesnt allow him to keep telling the "truth" , (his truth one assumes), would lead him to go elsewhere. What Lemon is saying is that any effort to move to the center would not be truth. Their own president knows they are too far left.
I never watch him either. In fact, I just tune in to CNN to see what the latest is. My wife likes to watch Andrea Mitchell at noon. We don't watch MSNBC except Rachel on Mondays. She's to the left, but so are we. She has great guests. She despises Trump and today's GOP as much as we do. We'll watch the news position of Fox, but no longer will we watch Carlson and that group. They are the absolute worst at promoting discord.
I don't watch any cable news casually. I have tuned in during the Jan 6 insurrection and the subsequent hearings. However, I do go to cnn.com and foxnews homepages as a matter of course to laugh at the disparate headlines. That's the reason I found the downgrade rating interesting as it reaffirms my impression of foxnews.com. So often foxnews.com's featured stories (above the fold) are deceitful and pandering. For example, I don't need to read opinion pieces on the evilness of Hillary during a trump impeachment session.
There’s a mountain of difference between the newscasts and the Shows, which are talking Op-Eds. News should be objective, the latter is definitionally opinionated. It’s when the Op-Ed Talent, like Tucker Carlson, pass of their opinions as fact-based, where the lines are crossed.
CNBC has also been downgraded for similar reasons. Seems that the peer of FoxNews is not CNN but CNBC, at least online.
Let's just review a few of Fox's choice moments on the Mar-a-Lago story, shall we? Fox News Airs Doctored Photo of Trump Raid Judge With Ghislaine Maxwell Fox complained the feds should have subpoenaed Trump’s documents before seeking a search warrant. They did. Fox's Laura Ingraham dismisses reports of nuclear documents being at center of Mar-a-Lago search as an “excuse” Sean Hannity calls documents at center of Mar-a-Lago search “meaningless” Fox hosts: Trump should not be criticized for lying about having received the warrant for Mar-a-Lago search How Fox News reacted to the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago Sean Hannity announces he no longer loves law enforcement Fox News Jess Watters suggests FBI planted evidence at Mar-a-Lago, citing only guesses and a 'hunch'
Chris Cuomo was good, he would take anyone to the woodshed, dem or pub. Probably left of center, but not like Lemon.
Cuomo was bad. Lemon was pretty decent until he was Uncled a few years ago and then went full raechel Anderson is still pretty solid.
@tilly “Im certainly not going to support Fox and I was thinking more along the lines of MSNBC, but CNN has entire programs where the anchor openly mocks every single conservative idea. ( Don Lemon). The bias is palpable. They do it with more decorum than Fox, but they are just catering.” Those shows are editorial commentary. Yes CNN and MSNBC are going to be more left leaning on editorial commentary. “Even now their news cycle is so heavily Trump an alien wouldnt read it and know Biden existed.” Unless you are pro Trump and believe everything he says and does, what he does is news. He lies, tries to tear down our institutions, tries to take over the government and incites violence. There is really no middle of the line with Trump. Even the relatively few conservative shows (like the Bulwark podcast) that are anti Trump talk much about the mass delusion of Trump and Trump republicans “And their abortion coverage is 100% one sided. There is zero objectivity in their reporting on Roe and Scotus. Zero.” Are you talking about news coverage or editorial commentary? If news, what about the reporting is not objective. If you are talking about commentary, the vast majority of Americans do not support abortion bans from conception, and being for abortion bans from conception is almost entirely a religious belief. From a scientific and constitutional rights perspective forcing a woman to bring an early term fetus to term is an extreme view. If we were talking about laws requiring women in the US to wear burkas, I doubt they’d seem objective on that either. “Choose your side if you wish, but neither one is delivering real straight forward journalism.” Nobody does that these days on TV. Nobody wants that.
I mean he literally lost his job for being in the tank. I know blood is thicker than water, but he was so biased during covid and it killed his career at CNN. He lost his way in my opinion.
Seems like we mostly agree. My point is outside of major events like war, shootings or storms its almost all editorialized. Even those are quickly turned to debates over guns, climate etc. The abortion thing is off the charts biased. Articles on CNN are mostly some anecdote about some obscure situation. But anecdotes exist on both sides. My sister was told to abort. She didnt. She jas a perfectly healthy 13 year old today. Will you see a story like that on the news? Nope. Just the other side. Their anecdotes have an agenda. That makes it glorified editorializing. Tell storys from all angles. Report what happens, good and bad, from all perspectives. CNN doesnt come close to that anymore. Yet they are still likely the closest thing we have left. Thats a travesty imo.
You have to ask yourself why did the FBI ban Trump's attorney from overseeing the Communistic raised? If they had nothing to hide or possibly plant evidence to stop Trump from running in '24? The American people have zero faith in the FBI and the DOJ.
This article illustrates the lack of journalism we are discussing. The headline says the anchors have been “turned into soldiers” in Trump’s war, but then the text of the article says they had to read a one-time promo. That’s like drafting a bunch of people into the army, having them fire one bullet, and then sending them home. Turning the anchors into soldiers implies that it’s something that’s ongoing. This article is from 2018. If they became “soldiers” we should have these compilations from last week and the week before and the week before that. So the owners of the stations back in 2018 had their anchors at each station deliver a commentary. Not a big deal.
