That's weird. Talking about your sibling rivalries. I wonder if he is going to grad early in 2024 as well. Perhaps the tide will turn before then and he'll want to follow in the same current as his brother before he gets in too deep.

Coming out of HS, Deric was ranked 7th best SS in Florida and 192 best player overall in the country. Very solid scouting report although not off the charts when you compare to someone like Lastres at his position. He may yet become a solid ballplayer for Gators but his SEC performances and Cape Cod League experience this summer do not provide a great deal to build on confidence wise. Hoping he, with the help of coaches, can regain his early season mojo and the game slows down a bit for him.

Have we ever had a freshman get as much PT as Deric with results as poor? I can't recall. Sully gave him a loooong leash before basically being forced to sit him.
His bat and glove were equally bad. He's a mid major player at this point. He should transfer out or be satisfied with whatever PT he gets.

D-Fab being Mr. Baseball (#1 high school player, I guess?) but only the #26 prospect implied scouts thought he would have a hard time adjusting and/or might not succeed at the next level. I suspect his path to being a good college player and having a shot in the MLB draft will have more to do with the weight room and training table than with the batting cages and infield practice. Were I an optimist, I'd frame his lousy summer stats in that context -- maybe he's still getting used to his new (+10 pounds of muscle) frame and hasn't gotten his timing right yet.

Don't know if Cade Kurland originally was committed to the Noles before saying he's coming to Gainesville and enrolling early. I'm pretty sure that Rivers Kurland recently made his recent pledge to FSU and that was his first. It should be interesting to watch the 2 brothers face off against each other 3x per year.

    Ocala thanks.

Curiously Perfect Game has him as a 2022 Grad but does not include him on our 2022 recruit list.

Sadly, Fall practice is still about two months from now.

I still haven't heard anything more about Calilao, Armstrong, or Hartman. I'm starting to wonder if they will be back. Am I forgetting something?

If they come back, the team has serious personnel count issues.

I thought Hartman looked solid in scrimmages- he's a very intense guy and needs to learn to control that intensity but I see potential if he returns to campus. He pitched in Cape Cod this summer with Harwich and continued with control issues-- in 4 outings, 8.1 innings, 15 Ks but 12 walks. Not sure where he would slot in with the Gators bounty of pitchers but I see potential either here or elsewhere.
I'm more optimistic with Phillip Abner abilities to contribute in a major way this coming season. He seemed to get it together in closing stretch this spring and had an excellent summer on the Cape with 3-0 record and ERA 1.93.
