Seems like people forget that all kinds of things were protested in the 80s and 90s. Basic Instinct was protested for its portrayal of gays. Body Double was protested and received backlash for perceived misogyny and having a cross-dressing killer. Last Temptation of Christ was protested by Christians.
I went regularly up until Covid but did start going again this year. Yes, on the small local level it is pretty good, but it is very evident that there are a lot of “off limits” areas. Couldn’t agree more about Coming To America. It was awful.
That is the opposite of a Karen. Karen's fully engage, that's what makes them Karen's. I've had some down time at work for the last year and I have watched too many Karen videos to remember. They come from all walks of life, every gender, all races, and all economic levels. The one thing that I find they all have in common is they will not disengage. It is always full-on Karen stupidity. Entitled, bitter, little people for the most part. Never admit being wrong even when obvious to everyone.
Body Double was one of my favs from the 80's. A De Palma special. The Untouchables was on the other day and that is De Palma at his best.
What is interesting right now is that this thread does not show up on too hot for me. I only get to it by notifications that someone responded to my posts.
Dice deserved the heat because he wasn't funny to anyone but those with the frat-boy mentality. I mean how is "_ss eating, An Artform" and all that came after that line funny? I'm no old fogie but he always seemed to not be the least bit funny. I did love the screamer comic though. These days I love me some Louis C.K. (warts and all), Bill Burr (my fav), and Dave Chappelle.
That is really dumb that I cannot now see the thread because someone decided to block me. Really dumb!!!
Dice often punched down and at marginalized groups. That being said, I laughed at some of his stuff when in high school. "Hickory, dickory dock..." Here's Carlin talking about Clay back in the day. Some of his comments about appealing to grievance are sadly applicable today.
You can check. hold your cursor over the icon in the upper right corner, the one between the search and mail buttons. "People you block" is on the list.
Another De Palma film and another one I loved. I can see where that one rubbed some people the wrong way and thinking about the bad girl actually being a man that had a split personality (the other being a murderous woman) makes me wonder how it would be received today. What I most remember about that one is Nancy Allen and the scene where she's keeping the Dr. busy by seducing him. I have always had a big thing for Nancy Allen for some reason and that scene is burned in my mind's eye forever. Years later I loved her in "Out of Site" (small role). Out of Site is one of my favs from the 90's. Clooney & Mrs. Affleck had chemistry that was out of this world.
If you were a single guy in the late 80’s dating and hitting bars, Dice was summing things up pretty accurately
