That's what he told me and continues to tell me to this day. His GF, now wife, was prepared to transfer there too. (teacher)
Do you know that in Norway teachers make more than attorneys? Just no respect here for those that teach our kids. Then we complain and spend good money after bad on vouchers for pretend private schools.
See - this is the part of public education in the U.S. that very few know about. Thank you for sharing. When I started my teaching career in Ruskin, FL (Hillsborough Co), there were not any engineers or professors, etc. but there were some fantastic teachers, some fantastic UF grads, and a co-worker who was a world-class musician. Actually, our P.E. coach gig'd more than us. She was super-talented. I hope your new gig was by choice and is a great change. It's all about the students. If your co-workers are any indication, I'll guess that you are privileged to work with fantastic students. Wish you every bit of success in your new teaching adventure. And I'm confident your students will become the next nuclear engineers in the U.S. and abroad.
Nice, but I happen to know 2 philosophy majors that went on to law school and are making well over 6 figures.
That's the way it should be. FWIW, my son's high school chem teacher was making $170k a year. Most of his and his sister's teachers were making between $95 and $135k a year. That was ten years ago. I'd never seen so many Mercedes and Beamers in a faculty parking lot.
I do not think this is true. Through google it appears average salary for attorneys is almost 3x the average teacher salary. The data should be accurate since all incomes are published in Norway.
Well, it is entirely unscientific my data. In conversations with several investors from Norway that I learned that.
There has never been $170K teacher anywhere. My county is one of the highest paid in the country and we top out at $136K after 26 years, with a PhD, and the 260 day contract. Most of us are on the 194 day scale, and not a lot of PhD’s. My current one would be $107K max after 26 years. And this one is a HUGE increase from my last county. That one topped at $87K after 30 years. You could get a little more with insane coaching, summer school, etc. But you’d never get to $170K. This is public info, there is no need to guess. Last time he made the claim he followed up and said it was in Chicago, so I posted the salary schedule from the highest paying Chicago school district. Which did not go up to $170k, I'm a little surprised to see him still making the claim.
And we made it here as I predicted. Why not show Bill Gates who didn’t graduate college vs Ted Bundy who graduated from UW? That’s an endorsement for not going to college too!
