AG Garland confirmed that he personally approved that a warrant was needed. Also said Trump's attorneys have a copy of the warrant and property receipt of what was taken, and Trump himself has the right to release this information. Last, the AG just filed a motion to unseal the warrant in the US Florida court. Very unusual that the warrant is released by the DOJ, but would answer a lot of questions.
I will be watching this with interest. Since he has not chosen to disclose the two docs to date, I assume the calculus is unfavorable to him. Therefore, I expect him to fight this unsealing. The arguments trump team makes will shed some light on their exposure.
Here's the motion to unseal Attorney General Garland Personally Approved FBI’s Search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Home, Asks Judge to Unseal Documents
He should just get Barr to front run it by releasing a “summery” before Garland releases the whole thing. Worked last time…
What I got out of that presser is that Garland thinks he has Trump. He basically said fine, I’ll call your bluff. Let’s dance and let you explain why those documents were taken, or why you suddenly don’t want it released.
I think if nothing else it will shut Trump up. He now will have to ok the release or fight it. I await his decision. Don’t forget the only reason we know about the search is Trump talked about it.
McCarthy, Scott and the other asses in Congress who reflexively insulted DOJ and the FBI by calling it a "rogue" operation are going to be awfully embarrassed when all the facts are known and have their "assness" confirmed. The un-American nature of Trump's conduct is matched only by certain members of Congress, and some posters on this site.
I am wondering how Trump is going to spin his fighting to keep the subpoena secret. I already know that however ludicrous it is some here will buy it.
Garland is a cautious and principled public servant and is highly respected by members of both parties. He strongly suggested the government - to whom the requested documents belong - tried other means to obtain the documents Trump took with him to his home. We know he was previously subpoenaed but did not return all documents in his possession. I strongly suspect DOJ feared another subpoena would result in Trump secreting the documents. Execution of a search warrant, therefore, was a last resort and approved by him and Director Wray. This was not a rogue operation, but one done by the book by principled public servants who Garland rightly defended vigorously. We are going to learn that at least some of the documents seized are of an ultra-sensitive nature and relate to national security. They could, for example, contain America's battle plans should China invade Tiwan or Russia Poland. Trump has over the last few years violated a number of long-standing democratic norms and laws. This is just the latest. Yet, there are still a large number of people in and out of Washington who support this demagogue. I won't call them traitors. That's a legal term, and I suspect they believe they love America. I will say, however, they are the worst kind of American and are destroying everything we stand for. Sadly, the herd instinct, coupled with their lack of integrity and courage, won't allow them to see the danger.
I read that the head of the Department of Justice's Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, Jay Bratt, signed off on the warrant. AG Merrick Garland says he signed off on Trump search, denounces attacks on law enforcement That seemed odd to me. Why is the Chief in charge of catching spies signing off a search warrant of the former President of the United States???
Lol... nothing he has was illegally possessed by Trump. See all the court cases against past presidents and you will find the answer in some of those lawsuits that were eventually dropped or dismissed...
Two years after leaving office and President Trump is still getting harassed? There is nothing that the Trump has that belongs to the fed. I think we can see that they Biden administration going to plant something on him and that is the only reason why they raided his home two years after he left office. He and his family had cameras and watched it all of CCTV by the way... Should make for an interesting. He never committed a crime while he was President... how did Garland get a search warrant for this fishing expedition in the state of Florida. The governor should find a way to prevent this kind of illegal searches of people's homes in Florida. Watch Biden pardon his crack-head son for everything that he's guilty of...
If you had the slightest clue about anything you would know that Ronnie boy can't pardon Trump for federal charges.
