And campaigning which is what the sheriff is doing. You may not like it but that is exactly what he is doing.

I don't know why Volusia is exposing a Brevard Sheriff, but there's stuff on there that I've also read The Florida Today.

Having a view though is slightly different than being a foot soldier with a gun and badge
When I worked for the state I was not allowed to even wear political buttons while in uniform or have bumper stickers on the state truck. That’s a better policy

People voted for him for sheriff and they can certainly vote him out of office. Seems all of the information you post goes back as far as April 2021and he was re-elected in 2020. While the article attempts to tie the sheriff to the Oath Keepers it has not produced any tangible evidence that the sheriff is a member of any such group.

Any Internet search on Sheriff Ivey will reveal a treasure trove of videos and articles that appears to align many of the "Oath Keepers" core beliefs, with Sheriff Ivey's vocalized beliefs. Several of these articles and videos were produced by Ivey himself.

The sheriff is an elected official so he a political figure. In this sense it is no different than other political figures backing a candidate.

No different than all those Southern sheriffs that were in league with the KKK, he's just aligned with a more 2022 version of the same thing, palatable to the same type of people

There’s really no reason whatsoever for a sheriff to be political, or even necessarily be an elected position.

Judges shouldn’t have political affiliation either, for that matter. If a state/municipality goes the election route to determine these positions, it can just as easily be non-partisan elections. It would certainly be better that way. Partisanship is poison to the judiciary and law enforcement/military.

I mean if the people appointing them are elected, I don't really see the difference. At least with direct elections they have a little more accountability to voters. Whether or not sheriffs are elected, there should be some sort of civilian oversight board with teeth, independent of elected officials.

I doubt this is at all rare, but I think it's particularly problematic to have a Sheriff politically pressuring people. I'm also not sure why a campaign for Sheriff should be partisan either. I was at an event one time when our Sheriff kept referring to himself as a Republican. I asked him how he thought that impacted the race and his duties. He then said it didn't.

Just saw a couple clips with this guy in a piece on guns in schools. You're right, he's a real piece of work. Says things like "violence must be met with violence and if not, you will die a violent death." Is intent on arming SROs with ARs, etc. Can't really write what I really think of this guy, so I'll just say that I disapprove.

But it did affect whether or not he would continue to hold that office.

That's probably true. I don't necessarily blame him for talking about his party way when that's how the race is set up. But I'm just not sure that law enforcement should be political partisans and he claimed at least that it didn't impact what he does.

Partisan sheriffs races are basically defacto 'non partisan.' Most municipalities aren't competitive and have a partisan bent, and cops are pretty much the same everywhere. Only Democrats win here, but all the Republican cops just become Democrats when they run for sheriff. I suppose a non-partisan race would simply skip the step to where they align with a party, but it also makes getting information about candidates much harder when its an NP race. NP judicial elections are a crap shoot, because you never really know what you are getting beyond some banal talking points (if they even choose to do an interview with local media or fill out questionnaires).

The sheriff and police departments are two separate entities that provide different services. The big difference is the police works under the country's goverment and police work under the municipal government. That said they are elected officials.
