That’s what happens when you have a jack booted authoritarian thug using the power of the executive office to punish his idealogical opposites while installing mindless followers in key positions. Need to revise title
Probably the country, this state for sure, are rotting from within, and as is often the case, many find it in their best interests to promote it. Soon, a UF degree will be worth about as much as one from, say, Alabama or Mississippi, or most red states for that matter. An educated, free-thinking populace is deadly for tyrants like DeSantis.
UF seems to endorse new state anti-CRT law It's really bad right now. You have to be really careful what you say right now, or you might be reported to the thought police.
Check out the HB7 info website they put out - just for shits and giggles if you don't work at UF. Chief Diversity Officer - University of Florida (ufl.edu)
Can confirm that survey is correct. And many great educators left recently or will be leaving in the future. There is a feeling on campus that DeSantis's government is vindictive, and if you do anything that doesn't align with his government's preferred narratives and viewpoints, his cronies on the Board of Trustees will go after you. I'll also say that this (quote from the article) is not remotely true: “Generally speaking, however, the university has repeatedly expressed its support for the First Amendment rights and academic freedom of our faculty,” she said. “Additionally, we routinely engage faculty directly when it comes to crafting policies that are consistent with those of other public universities in the state of Florida.”
those schools might benefit from this if they can keep from creating the same kind of rep the Florida schools are getting among academics. There is a lot of talent at UF for potential poaching and a lot of academics who want to be at big state schools in the south. If I were recruiting for any of the other schools in that part of the country I’d be in regular contact with professors at UF right now - and doing what I could to prevent the same kind of anti intellectualism from infecting my own school.
The UF faculty and Union have been quite unhappy for a long time. Is UFFL still run by Librarians at UF? Now, I guess they are just really unhappy
No worries, UF can probably just replace those doctors and professors with spouses of veterans, or something...
Saw the article. I'm guessing that top 5 academic ranking that many of us are proud of, won't be there for long.
