Reminds of that poster that showed around the time Dan was out the door and speculation began for the new hire. Was Running Gator on another forum. Don’t remember what the name was here.

How many time did Bowden play for the championship in the first 5 years when Florida and Miami were bad?????

Thanks for corroborating my comments? It wasn’t until all three were viable that championship outcomes seemed to be determined by what happened in the state of Florida.
So from 1989 to 2001 the Big three played in 13 (14 if you consider that Florida played against FSU in 1996) national championship games and won 6. Never before have we seen a state with multiple big programs dominate in any sport like that except UNC and Duke and Alabama and Auburn. The fuel for the success was good coaching, recruiting, and competition within the state by the Big 3.

    1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 (two Florida teams), 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.

They were all recruiting well, and keeping major talent in the state during that time. While there has been limited success for a three-four year period for us, and probably a three-year period for FSU, the Florida schools have been virtually irrelevant for almost the entire century. 22 years and 8 years of success versus the success they realized in the 90s when they all were good.

Whether you want to admit it or not, the success of our program is tied to limiting the 5 stars from Florida going to Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Clemson. Most of them (the Florida 5 stars and 4 stars) have about 40 offers of which 4 of them get official visits. Many of them have been officially visiting one of the big three but then committing to Georgia, Clemson, of LSU.

When Georgia gets more 5 stars out of Florida than we do, and gets the bulk of the 5 stars out of Georgia, it makes it harder for us to win the East. We won't even talk about the psychological impact of having blue-chip Florida players fleeing the state to play for our rival programs. I'd rather see us win a national championship every 8-10 years with Miami or FSU winning 1 in that same time period than our not winning 1 because we can't get past Georgia who is beating us with Florida players.

Good for you. You fail to understand that the reasons why the Alabamas and Georgias are dominating the SEC is because they are taking talent out of the state of Florida without which they would not be where they are.

I agree with you that the NIL has changed the landscape considerably, but if you neutralize the ability of the power teams to pay (which is what will happen), then it comes back to who is playing well now, who is playing tough teams game in and game out, who is not ducking anyone, and who is going to put that HS player on a stage where he can shine. If the teams in Florida are down, the perception will be that the talent in Florida might be great at the top but below average at the low 4 star to 3 star level.

Napier and Cristobal have started the reversal of the circumstance Florida that schools football themselves in. The schools have played for 1 championship in 13 years despite having the deepest talent pool in HS football. It is borderline dysfunctional.

I sent him to the cornfield (twilight zone reference for the whippersnappers) after he started back up with the bullschytt this morning. It has been fun though to see others respond without having to wade through more of the same. But out of respect for those who want their recruiting thread back, I will now turn away from the trainwreck entirely. But just FTR, the only "clown" in this fiasco is the knucklehead who started the Bowden/et al schyttfest in the first place. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Peace, out.

Is this the 12y.o. from last year? You know, the one that was bored during Covid and decided to bore us with their less than clever “hot takes”?
    At least he/she’s been reading!
The home schooling HAS made a real improvement in their grammar, too.

No participation trophies here. I graduated from UF in 1978. Btw, I was a member of the UF intramural softball championship team in 1978 and the dorm league champions in 1974. We definitely didn't win those championships by just showing up. I understand about strength of schedule being a determining factor for rating teams but UF was an elite team under Coach Spurrier and we didn't beat FSU very often. You don't really get anything extra if you lose to a top rated team in your last game and UF may have played in another national championship game or two if they didn't lose to FSU in the last regular season game of the year. The SEC championship team was still considered one of the elite teams in the country back then. BTW, did you play on any sports teams higher than intramural level when you were in college?
