Let me know when Republicans either demand less EITC enforcement (or even stop demanding more EITC enforcement) or increase enforcement funding explicitly for higher income audits. Until then, this is trying to blame the IRS for doing what Republicans asked them to do with their diminishing budget.

Dems are factoring the increase in IRS enforcement for the delta.

What’s in Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer’s Reconciliation Deal on Climate, Health and Tax Policy?

Quick question, any idea where the IRS Union gives their money? Think it's 50/50? Would anyone be shocked to find it's 100% given to Dems? I mean shocking, just shocking. BUT, i'm sure the IRS will call it evenly LOL. It's like playing Bama in Bama and every ref is from Alabama.

Yes, i happen to think the tax cheats aren't located in a predominately minority county in Miss. When the IRS stops targeting minorities let me know.

There is no "IRS Union." There is the NTEU, which represents employees at a broad array of federal agencies. None of which is responsive to what I said.

Bernie Sanders (I-VT): "I wanted to take a moment to say a few words about the so-called Inflation Reduction Act... And I say 'so-called,' by the way, bc according to the CBO & other economic organizations that have studied this bill, it will have a minimal impact on inflation."

What MD said was true. Left wing groups are often “save the kabuki worm” or “ecological justice for kittens”. Right wing groups are “Patriots for exterminating liberals” or “God hates oppressive taxation”. Which ones are more likely to stand out as being explicitly political?

And? Are you in favor of deficit reduction, which is what my post was actually about?

Good then, we agree. The IRS should stop auditing EITC returns and increase audits on high earner returns.

While I think the name of the bill is a stretch, non other than Larry Summers, who has been the biggest critic of Biden administration on inflation thinks the bill does help reduce inflation.

To really make the point you are only inferring, we would need more data. You provided a map. The IRS doesn't tax counties. They tax people. Needs more info to push past just an inference. The chart above doesn't say what you think it says, I think. Would need to know the breakdown of income levels of taxpayers to know if the % of Americans in the $0-$75K tier is significantly less or more than the 51% that get audited (I think Romney said 47% dont pay any income taxes). Likewise, we need to know what the percentage of taxpayers are in the $1-10million dollar income bracket is to know if they get targeted less than the 7% that get audited.

the same people screaming about how the grid can't support all the electric cars/trucks are the same ones screaming what a waste of money it is to invest in the grid. they really need to fix the carried interest loophole though and do it right as not all CI is the same, ie if it has clawback provisions extended out. that is a giant pot of money to help reduce the deficit

I don't recall that history but if you say so I am not one to question you. How about with those that don't collect their debt? Especially if the debt is owed to you?

The county in Miss that was audited at the highest percentage is over 75% black. You can rationalize that all day long. I'll call it what it is. Targeting the poor, who are minorities at a higher level than whites.

Higher incomes get audited at a much higher rate. The percentage of Americans making >$1 million per year is about 0.1%. The percent of returns audited for that income level per the graphic is 11.8%.
