OU Asst. Coach Cale Gundy resigns after reading "shameful word"

Does the "no exception" rule apply to players as well? Maybe the coach should have asked the player to stand up and read his own writing out loud.

 

Maybe he only resigned because "resign" is an anagram for a certain word he likes using

 

If it exists, I guarantee it was put in with the players in mind

I've mentioned this before but I had a similar situation come up years ago.....I was inspecting a job and trying to point out a problem to a black guy wearing coke bottle thick glasses. He pointed to his glasses and said "I'm just a blind N" I simply answered "Even a blind N should be able to see that". Nothing was said at the time but after I failed his inspection he went to the county and complained I used the N word. Luckly the boss understood the situation or I could have been fired. He did assign another inspector to the rest of the project which was funny because I worked with contractors...The inspector he assigned to that job was the biggest ass hole in the department.

It isn’t just the N word. You have to be constantly making sure that you don’t say anything that can be even misconstrued as racist. The easiest way to avoid that is to partially or fully disengage. Or if you are an employer hire the white employee over the black employee.

Im glad you have wonderful relations and conversations with blacks. The world is filled with people who aren’t exactly the same as you.

 

While I agree it is stupid for him to respond like that, you really didn’t have use the word, did you? Is it that difficult? Why take the risk? I get you were trying to be clever but sometimes it just isn’t worth it.

What else was the coach supposed to say? Any smart head coach would say the same wether they believe it 100% or not.

 

Based mostly on this poster's story, I'm more convinced than ever that there's a certain type of person these things happen to. Who could have guessed this would happen to the 'Emmitt Till had it coming' guy?

My friend… while I take you for your word that you that you didn’t mean it in a racist way, you have to be absolutely crazy to think that was going to fly. Please… for your own safety do not try and be clever like that with the word. Some people would have slugged you on the spot for that quip. Or at least if you do, make sure you aren’t in arm’s reach.

I’m not going to go there. I know 51 late in life was diagnosed as autistic and has said so on the board. With my son who is ASD and likes music and rap and rapper videos and hears the N word all the time, it was difficult getting him to not use it or sing it. Trying to explain that because he is white he can’t but blacks can use it all the time is rather confusing. Ultimately there are only certain behaviors that result in most serious consequences for him. You have to pick your battles. So saying the N word was up there with physical violence and severe inappropriate threats. He has basically stopped, but it seems rather silly that is the level of priority this issue has been elevated to.
