They actually had a infectious disease guy n CNN yesterday talking about the demographics of different populations based on sexual partners and that Monkeypox was spreading rapidly in the gay male pop of 400+ partners.

The obsession the right wing has with hating on gay Americans every second of every day with every issue is just baffling to me.

I can already hear the teeth gnashing and bellyaching from the right when a monkeypox vaccine is created

It's already created and being administered.

My guess os as long as the left doesnt call people granny and child killers for not getting it, all will be good.

Although I don't agree with you on many issues the obsession with politically correct language truly borders on the absurd.

In cases like this it can be dangerous. If an effort is made to stem language than the right info may not get to the right people.

In fairness i feel I have seen this properly mentioned as to who is really at risk

From the BBC: A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that between April and June 2022, 98% of the infections in 16 countries were in men who have sex with men, but it's not clear why this is the case. It could just be coincidence – once a disease is introduced to a community, it tends to spread within that community. And there is no evidence that monkeypox passes any quicker through a population of men who have sex with men than any other group. Nor is there any evidence that it is more infectious to men than women.

What is monkeypox and why is it spreading?

If you read CDC’s response on transmission you would think you could get monkeypox from shaking hands (skin to skin contact). I guess it’s possible but when 98% of those infected are men who have had sexual contact with other men they are “burying the lead”. Why?

Here is how it spreads, per the CDC:

Monkeypox spreads in a few ways.

    • Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including:
      • Direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox.
      • Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
      • Contact with respiratory secretions.
    • This direct contact can happen during intimate contact, including:
      • Oral, anal, and vaginal sex or touching the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) of a person with monkeypox.
      • Hugging, massage, and kissing.
      • Prolonged face-to-face contact.
      • Touching fabrics and objects during sex that were used by a person with monkeypox and that have not been disinfected, such as bedding, towels, fetish gear, and sex toys.
    "butthole"? Really CDC?

    Monkeypox in the U.S.

I'm guessing there is more close intimacy and partners in the gay community than others, which explains the spread once introduced. But you can get it from run of the mill contact as well, as evidenced by infected children and the other 5%.

I don't think the CDC has been downplaying it. They have a statement on how and why they are communicating to the population.

    Key statements:

"Anyone can get monkeypox, and CDC is carefully monitoring for monkeypox in the United States. CDC is working to provide frontline healthcare providers and public health officials with information about what monkeypox looks like and how to manage the illness. Many—though not all—of the reported cases have been among gay and bisexual men. Given this, CDC is focusing on identifying and using specific channels that will directly reach gay and bisexual men across racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds. In addition to this focused messaging, CDC is also providing information to a wider audience about symptoms and the behaviors that can lead to the spread of monkeypox."

"Promote messaging that provides information on what monkeypox is and how it can spread and encourages seeking health care if experiencing monkeypox-like symptoms."

"Emphasize that anyone can get monkeypox and promote it as a public health concern for all. Focusing on cases among gay and bisexual men may inadvertently stigmatize this population and create a false sense of safety among those who are not gay and bisexual men."

    Monkeypox in the U.S.

I fail to see anything nefarious in their approach.

I think social distancing x2 would be the natural reaction by everyone to someone covered in purulent pustules

What you call hate, I call common sense information. In the 1st 2 minutes he points out how the government is throwing gas on the fire by declaring an emergency. He points out that it would be a good idea for gay men to steer clear of festivals like the New York Pride festival or the SanFran Kink & Fetish festival.

This is what can happen at these festivals ‘I literally screamed out loud in pain’: my two weeks of monkeypox hell. You can't go around blaming others that you have blisters on your wizard and fire shooting out of it when you bang down a bunch of dudes in one weekend. The guy had sex with several men over one weekend. That's just not intelligent.

You claim hate, but in all honesty, you're part of the problem because you give these folks a pass for acting irresponsible. It is crazy how this has exploded since it has been around since the 70's. I wonder why people's immune systems are giving way to this illness?
