No, Urbs won 2 national championships while crushing them on the field and in recruiting. Our boat does not rise with FSU and Miami in any way. We play better teams in the SEC every year. We have no need for them any more than we need FIU and USF to be nationally relevant.

Fsu and Miami are like that fly that gets in your car but you can't get it out even when you roll all the windows down at high speed.

That becomes even more true in this NIL era if they don’t end up in the B10 or SEC. They will never catch up to us. Keep them out and it will be inevitable. No way they will find that kind of cash.

I really don't care if scUM slides into the Atlantic Ocean tonight. And the only reason I still want to play FSU every year is so that we can torture them mercilessly until the sun finally explodes in about 5 billion years or so. But that would be the ONLY justification for their continued existence.

In 2006 we beat them 21-14 in Tallahassee. I would not call that “crushing them” but then I am not you.

You also said urbs crushed them in recruiting those championship years. WRONG AGAIN!

in 2006 we had a #2 class and they had a #6 class. That is hardly crushing someone in recruiting!

That season that we won our second national championship, their highest ranking was 9th. They started to dip when they lost to Clemson who had 20 freshman in their 2006 class 6 of whom were from Florida. Clemson only had 7 from South Carolina. So Clemson had just as many commits from Florida as from their home state.

In the 2008 season we had a #5 ranked class and they had a #12 ranked class.

Maybe you should look up the word correlation. Because when they recruited well and we recruited well we won championships. They were ranked 23rd when we played them in Tallahassee, and finished a respectable 8-4.

in 1996, FSU had a #2 ranked recruiting class and we had #5. That was our first championship season.

So if you are keeping up with me (and I know that’s a stretch), the differential in recruiting for our three championship seasons has been 3, 4, and 7, and both programs were teetering or in the top 10 in recruiting each time we won a NC.

You don’t have to be an expert at differential equations to connect the dots do you?

This year, we are 12-13 and they are 18. Clemson is not recruiting well in Florida anymore. Miami has picked up its recruiting.

it is better for our program if 1). Either or both FSU are viable contenders, and/or 2) if they are respectable in recruiting.

The notion of winning our state might be the cause of it. If we point to recruits who have committed to Miami or FSU, HS students from Florida might be more inclined to commit to our school for bragging rights in the state.

Whatever the reason is, you are dead wrong on the connection between FSU’s viability in recruiting and our NC aspirations.

Differential equations aside, 8-4 in the ACC strains the limits of the word respectable. FSU has, does and will always suck!

They can’t sink low enough to become irrelevant fast enough. The cowards are current reaping the fortunes of decisions made decades ago. The ensuing Karma associated with their scandalous quest for unachievable parity with UF is just now taking hold of the program.

1-2 mediocre seasons and rinse repeat for a coaching search will doom them for at least another decade. Let the downward spiral continue to build momentum.

I think Duke and Alabama would've been even better without their rivals. Do you think UF wouldn't have been better if they didn't play FSU every year?

Maybe FSU because they will start to hurt our strength of schedule if they get any worse, but Miami? I can't think of a reason we need them relevant.

Yeah, I'm sure if LSU had another good team in their state they would recruit there even better and have even more success!

Miami and FSU are disgraceful football programs that shouldn't be associated with higher education and the world would be a better place if they were shut down.

You grew up in the “participation trophy” age where you get recognized for showing up. And an easier path to glory is a preferred one to you.

There are no easy paths. And those who live their lives pursuing them do so in vain. Ultimately the “cream rises to the top”. It does not worry about the carbonation it has to go through to get there. In fact, it is the carbonation that makes the cream special and elite. We became an elite football program when we finally got over the Bobby Bowden hurdle.

People would always say that Florida had the talent (why?) because everyone couldn’t go to FSU to play for Bowden. But during Bowden’s era, we were for the most part in FSU’s shadows.

Along comes Spurrier and the dynamics changed, but it didn’t matter until we beat FSU for the NC.

That should tell you everything about the importance of FSU and Miami in the overall scheme of things.

Right now Alabama and Georgia are the hotspots in college football. But guess what? They pilfer key players from the state of Florida that if they went to our school or FSU or Miami, would weaken their programs. I’d rather see a 5 star go out of conference from Florida than to Kentucky or Tennessee or Alabama.

The SEC Championship is a punched ticket to the playoffs sometimes for the winner and loser. You can’t win a NC if you are not in the playoffs. And you can’t get in the playoffs without playing for the SEC Championship if you are an SEC school.

This has been emphasized over and over again by our coaches and players.

The implications of losing to a mediocre FSU team or barely beating them is catastrophic compared to beating an FSU team that is ranked #3 in the country in Tallahassee. The fact that you are struggling to see this baffles me!

In our hearts and minds we inscribe that motto. But truthfully, FSU is our Joe Fraizer. And Bobby Bowden is one of the top five greatest college coaches of all time football or basketball.
